By advertising on Craig's List, we rented out our timeshare last March for check-in this month.

Once the deal was complete & all payments received, we notified the resort 3 ways that our renter would be checking in instead of us (telephone, fax, E-Mail).

The day before check-in, we got semi-worried about whether our renter would get a smooth & easy check-in, so we called the resort's check-in desk to make sure they knew who'd be showing up to check in using our reservation.

They were right on top of it -- knew we had rented out our week, knew who it was who will be showing up in our place. I was impressed.

Then The Chief Of Staff phoned our renter, just to say that we had double-checked with the resort. From that call, it became clear why the resort check-in people were so on top of things -- because our renter had just been on the phone with them not 5 minutes earlier just to make sure of the same thing we were making sure of.

Son Of Trust But Verify.

Today's snail mail delivery included a copy of our latest timeshare deed, plus a copy of the letter the closing services & escrow company sent to the resort's recordkeeping department letting the timeshare folks know it's time to take the old owners off the list for that particular EEY unit & add us to the list as the new owners.

I called up the timeshare recordkeeping folks down in Florida & asked to talk to the person the letter was addressed to. After several minutes of listening to some nice Muzak, I got to talk to that actual person. I introduced myself as new owner of the unit & explained my desire to know whether the ownership-transfer records had been updated so that I can call the reservation desk any time now & request a specific check-in date for my floating week.

After double-checking the unit & week, she said she didn't have me down as an owner. But she did have my son listed, she said.

I said 4 people are on the deed -- me, The Chief Of Staff, our son, & our daughter-in-law (mentioning all 4 of us by name).

"Oh, yes," she said. "I see that now -- don't know how I missed it. Just give me a minute & I'll have all 4 names listed. And in about 5 minutes more the new-owner information will be on-line in our system, so you can call the reservations office in California and when you ask to make a reservation they'll know it's your time to reserve."

We'll see.

Meanwhile, it's good to know the process has gone along this far without a snag.

I'm confident enough at this point to add our new EEY timeshare to that little box showing our resorts, over to the left.

That's 4 timeshares we've got now, after not even taking our 1st timeshare plunge till 2002. Who'd a-thunk?
