False Resort Review

I just read a review on Greensprings Plantation located in Williamsburg, VA posted on Trip Advisor web site that is totally untrue. The reviewer stated that there was a fire at this resort during his stay of the week April 15, 2006 - April 22, 2006 of this year. There was no fire at this resort. There was a major fire at Sunterra Powhatan Plantation during April 2006. I guess you can not believe everything you read.

Trip advisor does a terrible job monitoring their boards. Almost any property that has a good number of reviews has reviews for the wrong property mixed in. The Westin Ka'anapali Villas' reviews have a number of reviews mixed in that are actually for the Westin Maui Hotel. They say things like how small the rooms are and that the rooms have no closets - which is true for the standard rooms in the hotel, but incorrect for the timeshare!

Re: False Resort Review

I was just looking at San Diego hotel reviews for a chain hotel with a few locations in San Diego. Although I was only looking at one particular hotel, reviews for the rest of the chain hotels in the area showed up. I think a lot of people don't select the correct hotel location and they all set mixed together. I have never seen trip adviser remove a review that was placed under the wrong location. The longer they are around and the more people who post review, the more I have seen this happen. I even saw a review for a Florida hotel, with a similar name, listed under a San Diego hotel. You just need to be careful and don't !

I hate to tell you but yes there was a fire there. 1 building did burn down. This also happened around the same time as the fire in Villa Roma.

Re: False Resort Review

I actually saw a hotel manager print a rebuttal to a review on a travel site (I am sure it was Tripadvisor), saying that the poster was not referring to the correct hotel.

I like Tripadvisor, but have to take some of what is written with a grain of salt. I have read some pretty bad reviews of places that I considered more than adequate.

Re: False Resort Review

Big Frank there was not a fire at Greensprings Plantation.

Again the fire was at Sunterra Powhatan Plantation.

THEY ARE TWO (2) DIFFERENT RESORTS.

I use TripAdvisor a lot for areas that I am not familiar with. I look more at the overall trend of the reviews rather than focus on the details as you have to read between the lines.

Re: False Resort Review

In line with what JC just said, details have the onus of perspective. Mine, yours, theirs, blah blah blah. Don't base your vacation expectations on what someone else said. Get the facts for yourself then see if reviews others post add some color to your understanding. Just know they could be talking about Aunt Tilda's basement apartment.

Re: False Resort Review

I actually emailed TripAdvisor and sent them a list of the misplaced reviews on the WKORV page, that were actually for the Westin Hotel. They sent me a canned email back saying if I "disagreed" with the reviews that I should submit my own review, and they did not remove incorrectly placed hotel reviews, from the WKORV reviews!

Re: False Resort Review

Wow, that's pretty crappy. They must use the same customer service book that RCI does.

Yes you are correct. They are sister resorts. Maybe the person who wrote that got confussed and ment to say Powhatan but put Greensprings by mistake.
