NYC "bargain" priced hotels

The Washington Post has a recent article that describes 15 Manhattan hotels with rates under $200. per night which they personally inspected and found to be nice. This may be helpful for TUGgers planning a visit to the "Big Apple" who have not been successful in trading into the Manhattan Club, or may wish to add extra nights to their visit.

You need to click onto the numbers on the map to obtain the hotel information.

Also, there are Bed and Breakfast properties in Brooklyn at:

Re: NYC "bargain" priced hotels

I have used TravelZoo in the past to find rooms below $150 a night, depending on season of course.

Re: NYC "bargain" priced hotels

Yes, but many of the "bargain" hotels in NYC can be God-awful places to stay--dirty, cramped, located in high crime areas, etc... And prices are way up in the past year. Tourism and business travel is booming. I know. I live a few miles north of the city and frequently help out-of-town family and friends find lodging.

The Washington Post article lists many properties I'm not familiar with. And the writers spent several months actually checking them out and staying overnight.

It's a good idea to read hotel reviews at http://www.TripAdvisor.com
It's the "TUG" of the hotel world.

Resorts: Umlhanga Sands, Dik. Started with Disney Vacation Club--hence the user name. :)

Bigrick talks about travelzoo and I subscribe to them as well. I'm going to NYC next weekend (Memorial Day weekend) and am getting a phenominal price because of that site.

In Feb of this year TravelZoo had the Park Central (which shares elevators with the Manhattan Club) for $99 per night. In March of this year TravelZoo had the Crowne Plaza at the United Nations for $129 a night. Nice prices in nice areas and as roomy as a hotel room can be.

If you want a real "bargain" I know you can get some kind of lodging for $12 per night (yes, that is twelve dollars!) on Bowery near Spring St. I have not inspected the premises but I do know they have space available daily.
