Airfare for Nov. to Phoenix from Pgh. Ouch!

We were trying to get to Phoenix & Grand Canyon 1st week in Nov. - but having difficulty trading our Disney Vacation Club into Kierland or Marriott. Just looked at airfares for that time - they have really increased $400 - I'm wondering if they're will be a sale. Or is this because of fuel costs & they'll only go up.................hmm & SW won't come out w/fares until the end of June for Nov. Don't know what to do...

Frani,
Didn't have your exact dates... so I searched Nov 4- Nov 11, on orbitz and expedia and both show a $188 fare with NW Air for these dates.

Re: Airfare for Nov. to Phoenix from Pgh. Ouch!

I was having the same problem for our airfare from PHL to PHX for our mid Aug. summer vacation. I had been watching SW all year...when the one way fare was $99 pp. So, I had budgeted that amount (for our family of 5). When SW opened their dates through Sept....I was shocked to see the low fare was now $158pp! YIKES!!! They did run a 3 day special of $132...and I quickly booked that for our trip. Yes, it's an increase over what I was planning...but still much cheaper than any of the other airlines. And, I really wanted to spend time at the TS in Sedona (and one night staying at the Grand Canyon).
Good luck in your search!

WN will likely hold prices above historical values, as their fuel hedges have slipped a bit. Personally, I'd wait until summer season is over, but I know TUG'ers like to do everything in advance

Good luck!

Re: Airfare for Nov. to Phoenix from Pgh. Ouch!

I have already booked from phl to Phoenix for next March @ $400 a person. There was only 1 flight on the day we leave and the day we return that worked for our schedule so I booked it. I was surprised it was so high.

Re: Airfare for Nov. to Phoenix from Pgh. Ouch!

At that price/RDM level, I'd have burnt miles. Anything remotely transcon for over 250 revenue bothers me big time.

Right now I can fly from LAX-DUB (Ireland) for 450.00 all-in. I posted a thread on FT about it. The fall Europe sales have started early. I think, with historically high fuel prices, many casual travelers will alter their plans and yield management will have to hustle to keep up. Be aware that, when I post fare basis codes, it means they exist, but it is possible that YM hasn't released seats for them. That can change hourly or even by the minute, unlike the loading of fares into the GDS. This is where seeing what's coming (the fare feeds) can pay off, as it did for LAX-DUB. I saw the fare before it was loaded into the wider GDS and was able to run down availability. It wasn't yet bookable on AA/EI, but was showing up on DL.

More arcane science, I know

You might want to check JetBlue. They will be flying out of PIT starting in June.

Re: Airfare for Nov. to Phoenix from Pgh. Ouch!

We flew into Tucson in April to save $100 per ticket (x5) in April. It is only about a two hour drive and there is great stuff to see there too. We flew American.
