I'm thinking about Memorial Day weekend in Newport with teen/almost teen boys... After we do the mansions and the cliff walk, what else would there be for them? I fear it may be chilly for the beaches... Having trouble deciding if it's worth fighting the traffic on I-95 over the holiday weekend... I've got Newport Onshore on hold....

Re: Newport RI on hold, need help re kids...
Newport wil be chilly that week. May in New England is typically cool. As for things for teenage boys to do there is the Tennis Hall of Fame; there are many boats that can be looked at in the marinas ans yatch basin. There's a school that resorts boats on Thames Street that my husband loved. They are usually open to viewers.
In May the beaches will certainly be too chilly to swim, but if the resort has an indoor pooll your teenagers should be all set; I now mine were back in those years. Joy |

To say New England is typically cool in May ...... is a crap shoot! ~ there is no "typical". Right now it's raining buckets outside, supposed to clear up & start getting warmer next week. We've been in Newport on Memorial Days when it was HOT, others when you needed a sweater. We love going down ~ sometimes just to peoplewatch. There's no lack of things to do there. Check out www.gonewport.com and see if there are any festivals that week. There are always harbor tours(sometimes fireworks), and horse & buggy tours of the city. Nightlife in Newport is incredable too.

Hmm, a lot of fun stuff going on that weekend, but DH is grumbling about traffic and having to take ANOTHER TRIP. It's a 2 bedroom at Newport Onshore, 5/26 checkin on hold for $395 (Extra Vacation)... if anyone wants to try "catch and release," send me a PM...
I mean "release and catch," I guess Last edited by Avery : May 13, 2006 at 04:03 PM. |

I can't imagine young men not enjoying a half-day at Battleship Cove, in nearby Fall River, Mass.

Thanks for all your replies. We ended up letting this go due to distance/traffic issues, but picked up a Gurney's unit instead!!
I will keep an eye for summer weeks in Newport though! |
