Big Apple Greeter?

Has anyone used this service (where a NYC local volunteer is paired with you and they give you the insider's view of a neighborhood)? I signed up for it and am looking forward to it but was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts/reviews of it.

Thanks!
Heidi

Re: Big Apple Greeter?

Heidi,

I'm considering it, too, for my week in August. What area are you choosing?

Re: Big Apple Greeter?

I left it to the "greeters choice" athough after reading Dani's accolade's about Brooklyn, I think I'd have reconsidered!

Of course, the whole premise is set up on volunteers (bless their hearts!) so I wanted to be as open as possible.

It just seems so cool that someone from NYC will take the time out of their busy schedule to show me their neighborhood because they think it's cool and worth seeing.

One of the many things that separates NYC from the rest. I think my city it great but there's no program to show it off. Go NYC!!

Re: Big Apple Greeter?

We used it 3 yrs ago with great success, but just in April could not get a Greeter even though I gave it 6 months advance request. We left it open to where we would go -- but I guess no one was available.

Re: Big Apple Greeter?

Cathy--Good to know that it was worthwhile. Any tips or things I should know (if I do manage to score a greeter)?

Thanks!

Heidi,
Bring along a small, local gift from your hometown for your greeter.

Re: Big Apple Greeter?

Fern--Thanks!! I was wondering how that worked since the site says they don't accept tips.
