Post Going thru security with DVD

What do you do when going thru security if you have DVD's with you for video recording? Will they be damaged going thru x-ray? Should I put them in a separte bag and walk thru the metal dedector with them? Or just prior to being checked tell a security person to hand check them?

Even digiatal cameras with a memory card? Should they also be hand inspected?

Thanks

Re: Going thru security with DVD

I have never had a problem with either of them. I always take them through by hand because I frankly want to keep an eye on them. I don't like the idea of putting hundreds of dollars worth of equipment in checked luggage. Have you ever seen them unload the checked luggage??

No problem taking DVDs or memory cards through the X-ray machines.

I was planning on carrying them with my carry on and when I get to the scanner, tell them I have the DVD's and memory card and ask to hand check them. OP said it is fine to go thur xray.

No I have never seen them unload the checked baggage. I know they toss it around pretty good. Never would I check in anything valuable such as cameras, etc. May even throw in my carry on a few items for cooking - oil, spices, coffee . I could imagine what a mess I would have if I checked this in.

Haven't flown for almost 10 yrs. Easy when we drive with packing groceries. Always take 2 coolers 1 for groceries 1 for cold drinks

thanks

Don't bother taking them out of your hand luggage for manual inspection. The x-rays won't damage them at all. I take them through security in my carry-ons about six times per month. Never had a problem.

See this TSA site for items that require special handling. For example, film should not be packed in checked baggage.
