December ski resort
Family with 2 children ages 12 and 13. Attitash mountain village or village of loon mountain condos?? Which one would you choose for ski trip? Want resort closest to mountain, amenities for kids, view and nicest units. Looking for large unit, family traveling with us. Husband's senior parents traveling with us. Loon mountain condos has townhome sleeps 8. Attitash has unit that sleeps 6 available. Which resort has the best winter amenities?
Help please.... Rachel |

Re: December ski resort
I know this probably isn't going to help much but Attitash had the best skiing conditions of anyone in the valley this past winter - they made a lot of snow and just kept pushing it around to get great ski conditions. Booth Creek (which owns Cranmore here in the valley and Loon over on the other side of the "Kanc") didn't have as great a year - I guess they didn't make enough snow.... If you're planning on skiing I'd go with Attitash. Which week are you planning on coming?

Re: December ski resort
Hey Debbie,
December 16, 2006 check-in date. With the kids looking for winter amenities...we are not avid skiers (we are from texas), but kids like to ice skate, snow tube, cross-country skiing. Wondering which resort, attitash or village of loon is closest to the mountain activites and which mountain is the best for the above mentioned amenities...loon mountain or attitash mountain? |

Ice Skating will be doubtful that early in the season.

Re: December ski resort
You really may want to consider going West instead of East. Unless of course you are traveling to your parnets. Most of the east coast resorts might be iffy for most of the things you want to do. You can fly into Denver for about the same as the east coast from Texas. Just a thought - a winter vacation without snow is not always much fun! One year we canceled our Christmas vacation due to the lack of snow.

Re: December ski resort
We are traveling to Long Island for the holidays...visiting my husbands family...thought we would get these snow deprived texas kids the winter action they have been wanting.....we could put off the mountain part of the trip until the last week in december...around the 31st of december to january 06, 2007. Would this make much of a difference in the amount of snow that we may get?? Or I suppose one just never knows what the season will be like? But if the probability was greater putting off 2 weeks later...that might work.

Re: December ski resort
The 16th is a bit early for the East. Waiting 'til later improves your odds for snow.

Re: December ski resort
Hi,
The above posters are right - you can't depend on Mother Nature to give us what we need - we sure didn't get it last Winter! As I said the ski areas will be making snow depending on how cold it is - usually by the mid to late part of December most of them are open. Ice skating is tricky - again it's got to be really cold - Nestlenook up in Jackson has a lovely skating area but I'm thinking it wasn't open to pretty much close to Christmas last season. Cranmore has a tubing park which they open weekends until Christmas school vacation and then it's open mostly all winter - they do make snow for it so it will be open. That would be located about 20 minutes south of Attitash Village. Again, everything to do with winter activities is dependent on Mother Nature so.... Whatever you decide to do send me an email if you want more information. We live in Glen which is about 20 minutes from Attitash and North Conway Village off of Route 16. Deb |
