Credit Reporting Error

I purchased a timeshare from Fairfield Resorts (Bluebeards Villa in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands) in April of 2005. I paid off the entire contract in June of 2005. But due to some screw up, they kept claiming that my initial down payment of $1,075.00 was never applied to my purchase price. Finally, in March 2006, I made another payment of $1,093.00 which Fairfield said was the payoff amount. But for that entire time, I never received any statements from Fairfield indicating that I had a "supposed" balance due. Just to make things more confusing, they refunded my $1,093.00 in April 2006. When I called them to ask why are you refunding this money since you claim this was the payoff amount, they said that there was an error and that they could not give me any more information and I was getting my money back

Fairfield reported to the credit agency that I was past due with my payments; but it was their error and I have a copy of a letter from Fairfield stating that it was their error. However, I am having problems removing the past due payment history from my credit report. I have never had any past due payments so I am desperately trying to figure out how to resolve this. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have already sent 2 dispute letters to the credit agency. I even sent a copy of the dispute letters to Fairfield along with their letter stating that it was their error. Excuse this long posting! This is my first time posting to a message board.

It's frustrating when something like this happens. Be persistent!

See this link for your rights and exactly what procedure you should follow, citing the Fair Credit Act in your correspondence.

And welcome to TUG!

Sorry to read about this problem. This TUG site is a great resource for help.

Here are a couple other groups that maybe of interest if you haven't found them-

Bill, I just wanted to thank you. I couldn't remember who had made the post until now. Almost a year and a half ago, someone posted on TUG about a credit problem. You posted about the Art of Credit website which led me to creditboards. These sites have been invaluable to me and many, many others whom I have told about them. These sites have taught me so much about not only personal credit, but establishing business credit. Thanks!!!

BTW...I thought that they had shut down the AOC site?

Thank you everyone for your suggestions!! I will keep you posted as to what happens.
