Re: crotched mountain resort--help??
Crotched Mtn is a small ski area where locals ski and take lessons. It's not part of the White Mountains where the bigger and better-known resort areas are. If you look on a map you'll see Crotched's in the southwest tier of the state while the places like North Conway, Waterville, Loon, & Bretton Woods are farther north. Crotched's in a pretty area of back roads and houses but I'm not aware of many things to do out there.

Re: crotched mountain resort--help??
If you like mountain climbing...easy mountain climbing...family mountain climbing...Mount Monadanock is near there. It is one of the most climbed mountains in the country. Bare on top with views of 4 states and Boston on a very clear day. Lots of trails with minimal hard spots unless you take a remote trail. I have been climbing it since I was a cub scout...then a webelos, then a boy scout. In High School we used to try and find the most obscure and longest trails to the top...of course we would come back down miles from our vehicles...so stick to the main trailhead.
There are lots of antique stores...junk flea markets...craft shows and seasonal events in the area. Also, Vermont is a nearby trip and if you get to 91 you can take a run up to Queechee Gorge in VT or go west (80-90 min) to Manchester and Bennington, VT. Not a lot of outlet malls, etc. in this area, but if you need city stuff, you can drive back East on 101 to Naseau (Nashua). |
