Question About Vermont
I am fairly new to timesharing and new to TUG. I purchased my first timeshare about a year ago RESALE on ebay. TUG was an enormous help as I researched before buying.
My husband and I would like to visit Vermont. Our main interest is seeing the Fall foliage. I'd like to know if Killington would be a good area for this and I'd like some advice as to the best month. Mid September? Thanks so much. Becky |

Re: Question About Vermont
The second week in October would be prime for foliage in that part of Vermont. September will be way too early.

It looks like Killington is more of a draw for skiers.

Killington
Yes, Killington is excellent for skiing...and for antiquing...and for exploring...and for a base in visitng other areas like the CT River Valley where the Fall colors start...and Barre (which is amazing)...and Burlington...and Fort Ticonderoga...and on and on. September might be a little early for full color. But, once you get up into the mountains, the colors will be more intense. Also, if we get a wet early Fall, the colors will be washed out (drained in intensity). There is never a bad season to see Vermont...you will thoroughly enjoy it if you love the outdoors...plenty of hiking in the Fall.

Re: Question About Vermont
I would agree that there is almost never a bad season to see Vermont - but fall is definitely my favorite.
However I have to ask the previous poster what in the world is "amazing" about Barre? We lived in Montpelier for years and thought Barre was best avoided...has it changed in the last few years? (This is partly tongue in cheek - don't mean to offend anyone from there...) ![]() |

Re: Question About Vermont
I certainly appreciate all the input. I need to keep in mind that Vermont is not a huge state.............you can probably drive to a lot of places.......... not like California.
I finally figured out how I ended up with my e-mail address as my user name (Eeeeekk!) I used my "auto-fill" button which filled in my e-mail address in the "user name" box while registering. I didn't catch it. So, now I've re-registered. Please be patient with me. I'm just a stupid newbie!! ![]()

Re: Question About Vermont
Becky, I've included two sites below that will give you a feel for what's available in different regions of Vermont. Where you go might be dependent on what you are interested in doing and seeing.
Vermont Life Magazine Vermont Living I would suggest you look into the following areas: Stowe/Smugglers Notch - in the northwestern part of the state. Its in the mountains. An hour drive to the west gets you to Burlington and the Lake Champlain area. An hour to the east gets you to Montpelier (and Barre) area.Yes, Vermont is no where near the size of Califonia, but keep in mind that we are a rural and mountainous state. We don't have a lot of interstates to get you places. What we have are a lot of country roads (paved and dirt) that are slow driving compared to an interstate, especially in the fall with all the leaf-peepers on the roads, but these roads are really interesting and pretty in the fall (actually year-round). You might use MapQuest or another tool of this type to check driving times between various places as you're planning your trip. Since you are coming from CA, I assume you are flying to Vermont. Another consideration may be where you are flying into. We don't have a lot of airports either, at least not big ones that jets can land at. The primary access it through Burlington (Vermont Airports).

Re: Barre
Another interesting place to visit in Barre is Hope Cemetery -- yes I am suggesting you visit a cemetery. Barre is and was the home of some very talented stone cutters. They would cut their own, family, and friends' headstones. They are real works of art, quite unique in many cases, and interesting to see how creative these cutters were. Its not your standard cemetery and worth the visit. Pick up a guide in the Barre Granite Association office in town.
