You know you're getting old when ...

You know you're getting old when you read about an upcoming INXS gig, and one of the highlighted features of the concert venue is the adjacent childrens play area.

And it's even worse when you remember that you were too old for INXS when they first arrived on the music scene.

Shucks, I'm so old that when INXS arrived on the music scene, I thought the name of the group was pronounced Inkses.

(Who knew it was spozed to be In Excess ? )

Not only that, music of the Beatles is more antique right now than the music of Glenn Miller was when I was in college.

It's a rock & roll band.

I have no clue whatsoever what they sound like or what tunes they're known for.

Whatevr happened to Bill Haley & The Comets ?

Don't feel bad, I'm in my mid 40s and thought it was the Inks the first time around. My barely pre-teen children thought it was the funniest thing they'd ever heard.

Of course, I've never been a rock and roll fan, even in my younger years.

INXS plays on despite critics

Some critics of INXS say the band damaged if not downright ruined its credibility last year by doing the reality television show "Rock Star: INXS."

The show had 15 contestants compete each week to become the new lead singer of the Australian band.

Many felt the show was an insult to the group's late singer, Michael Hutchence, who died in 1997, and a desperate move to re-start the career of a band that sold 30 million albums worldwide with Hutchence as the group's dynamic frontman.

But J.D. Fortune, who was selected by INXS to be the band's new singer, has a different view of the whole venture. He believes it was a highly courageous move by INXS to seek out a new singer in such a public way.

The band's biggest year was 1988 with several songs in the Top 40 and most went to the top 10 or better.

Anyway some of the more popular songs recorded by the original band with Michael as front man include:

Kick
Like It Or Not
Listen Like Thieves
Never Tear Us Apart
New Sensation
Shine Like It Does
Suicide Blonde

They also were included in the Brat Pack movie "Pretty in Pink" with Do Wot You Do

I guarantee you would recognize the band if you heard them.
