school vacation schedule 2007

I am looking to rent out my timeshare unit next year..however not sure if i should make it the week before Easter sunday or after..i think most schools are off the full week before..any comments??

It totally depends on the school district. And there are some schools that aren't even tied to when Easter falls.

Most public schools deliberately separate their "Spring Break" from Easter. Private schools, on the other hand, usually schedule their break to coincide with Easter. Especially Parochial and Christian schools.

For public schools, Spring Break varies from one part of the country to another. In my area, it's separated from Easter by at least a week, sometimes three (if Easter is in March).

I just reserved my T/S for the week beginning with Easter Sunday. I'm told the resort is jam-packed for the entire month.

I'm also in northern California and I've found this to be the exact opposite. Our school district (public schools) always had their spring break either the week before, or the week after, Easter. My younger dd is attending a private high school and her spring break falls no where near Easter.

...and our public school district is always the second week of April, with no regard to Easter.

In our area of Ohio, our break is always the last full week of March -- with no regard for Easter. The university closest to us usually has the same break as us, but at least once, it has been different.

My kids schools always have the third week of April for spring break. Easy for vacation planning but a little late for skiing at Tahoe...

fyi-since Easter is late this year, more schools will be beginning April

beginning of April will tend to have more spring breaks (week before Easter) nthan the week after Easter. If you look at Disney peak times for past years, when Easter is later in April, peak tend to be BEFORE Easter rather than after Easter.
However, many schools have Spring break in MArch all the time, so late March or 1st week in April are pretty safe bets---2nd week in April is still OK, I would think.

I live in Western NY and have spent 15 years in Central NY. Spring break here will start Apr 6th for most. A few school districts don't have President's week, but 2 in Apr. Those begin Mar 31st.

Good info on Spring Break. Do you have anything for fall break. We went to Las Vegas a couple months ago and the flights were very full coming home during Columbus Day weekend. It turned out that the Hawaii Schools were on Fall Break and the flights were full. We were flying standby and got stuck for three days in California.

Fall Long Weekends

Growing up eons ago on Long Island, and most places we've lived since then (VT,MT IA, Central NY and Western NY) the schools have had 3 or 4 days in Oct over Columbus Day. Traditionally, the Friday is a School Staff In-Service Day and Monday off for everyone. Veterans' Day in Nov is another 3 day weekend and in some places 4. Some districts plan Teacher Conferences then; the kids have off, interested parents attend the conferences, and some just pull their kids out of school for a few more days to take advantage of mid week fares. Lots of self imployed grape farmers, & wineries here. The harvest is in.
