When does MOD code kick in?

I am trying to rent an extra night at Cypress Harbour after my week there next spring break. There is availability at the rack rate, but no discount when I plug in MOD. Is the MOD only available some of the time and how is it determined? Are only units put up for rent by Marriott owners available for the MOD? I also tried the AAA discount, also unavailable. The only discount ($90 less) that worked was senior age 62 or older, but I am not eligible for that one yet!

We signed up for the free rewards card (where you can earn points toward hotel stays or airline miles). The code for that I think was M11, and it gave us around 25% off the rack rate. I would imagine they have black out dates for certain times of the year, so I don't know if that one will work or not.

Littlestar,

Can you clarify what rewards card you are referring to?

Thanks,

Marriott Rewards-not all codes work all the time at all resorts. I do try M11 and MOD as well as AAA and see which work. If you log on and sign in to the regular Mariott site you can click on "member only" specials. I am not talking about MVCI site. You can search both however. I sometimes find I have to search without putting in AAA because it blocks some discounted rates. I have not tried this on MCVI site.

Thanks PC Girl!

So how did you see/find out about the Marriott Rewards discount? I've been a rewards card holder for awhile.

Thanks,

Here's a link. Look down at the bottom right of the screen where it says "earn points or miles at more the 2700 hotels worldwide . . ."

Thanks, but I'm a Platnium Marriotts Rewards member and have been a member since the mid 80's. I've been a member so long my first membership numbers aren't even numbers. So how come I didn't know this? My question is where did you find the code for rewards members as when I book a reservation and put in my membership number a code does not appear.

dmharris,

I found out about the M11 code on the Dis boards. I signed up at Marriott's website and when I put my new membership number in to book a room, I think it automatically put that M11 code in for me. I had the choice of earning airline miles or points for stays at Marriott properties.

I also have a Starwood card that was free to sign up for online - I use that one whenever we pay cash to add a few days at Sheratons or Westins. I think that card got me around 30% off of the Sheraton Kauai last year for a couple of nights stay.

Regarding the original question about when the MOD code is effective. I think it depends on the date you are looking at. Around mid-May we tried to reserve a couple of nights at DSV I for a July week. (Crazy time to be there I know.) Then around the first of June, we tried again and were able to reserve the July dates using the MOD code. I think it is supply and demand. The weeks were then available using the MOD code until Sept 1st. It is like a seasonal block of time that is available. Probably coincides with the rate changes at the resort.

Just my experience.

There are always rooms for the MOD code. More or less depending on the time of year. Keep checking. I wanted to use it at Grande Ocean in mid June recently and there was nothing for the five weeks before. Then, accepting I was going to pay full price, I logged on to make a reservation only 3 days before I was leaving and it appeared. You could also get a couple of free nights by taking a tour while there.
