It is a great location right off the market. You will be surrounded by wonderful restaurants. Our favorites within steps of you are Anson and Mistral. For a more casual meal, try the wings or hamburger at Wild Wings.
A bit further afoot our favorites are Vickery's (casual), Fulton Five, The Oak Steakhouse, Carolina's and Magnolia's. Check out Restaurant.com for discounts. I have to say that late August is pretty miserable around here though. The heat and humidity will sap your strength. Take a carriage ride to get your bearings and some history and then walk, walk, walk. |

I was wondering about the weather that time of year too but we seemed to hold up pretty good when at Hilton Head the last week of August in 2004 and based on USA today the average weather for Hilton Head (high, low, dew point) pretty much matches Charleston for that time period (although I can't remember off the top of my head what the actuall temps, dew points for Hilton Head in late August of 2004 were). I suppose Hilton Head might also get more of a breeze than Charleston. Hopefully we'll be ok since we want to go on several walking tours. Greg |

Re: Church Street Inn Charleston, S C
We stayed at Lodge Alley Inn late September last year. We both enjoy the history of Charleston. Recommend you take a city bus tour or carriage ride to get your bearings. We were there 7 days and only got in the car for the tours at Patriot's Point and some close by plantations.
Many nice restuarants in the area in most price ranges. I did not see a fast food chain in the area which was nice. In addition to the initial Charleston bus tour we did; Fort Sumter tour Patriots Point-WWII vintage air craft carrier and submarine + more Civil War walking tour Ghosts & Legands walking tour Original Charleston Walking tour Drayton Hall Middleton Place Edmondston-Alston House Old Customs Exchange House Boone Hall Nathaniel Russell House Aiken-Rhett House and a few more that I don't recall The best tour we took was the Fall Candlelight Tours of Homes & Gardens. This was by far the most enjoyable. This is where owners of old/historic Charleston homes in the old town area open their homes in the evening and you go from house to house to see the inside and gardens of some beautifully restored or maintained. This tour is only for a few weeks in the fall, but highly recommend it. I was not impressed with the market, same stuff you get anywhere except the sweetwater grass baskets which are very expensive. The ghost tour was a little lame but there are several to choose from and others might be better. We just enjoyed exploring all the streets and alleys in and near the battery area. Most of the homes are beautifully restored. We enjoyed our first trip to Charleston and hope to go back in a few years. |
