Martha's Vineyard day trip(s)

We're staying in West Yarmouth for a week in late August and would like to take 1 or 2 day trips to Martha's Vineyard, probably via the ferry from Falmouth. Thanks to tuggers for that. We're a family of 5 (3 children ages 5/7/10) and are thinking we'll get a day pass for the local buses on the island.
I'd appreciate some help in planning our trip, specifically what to see, which bus to take to get there and timeframe suggested. Also.....can you please suggest a grocery store we can pick up snack/lunch supplies located close to a harbour/beach so we can have a picnic?
Thankyou!

There Are Stop & Shops & Shaw Markets In Falmouth Where You Can Buy Ready Made Sandwiches Cold Cuts Etc., Everything You Need For A Picnic. Parking Is 10.00 A Day For Your Auto With Free Bus Service To The Woods Hole Ferry To Martha's Vineyard. I Believe This Ferry Is Much Cheaper Than The One From Hyannis To M.v.a Day Bus Pass On M.v. Allows You To Get On And Off At The Different Towns And Sites. Bring Your Bathing Suits And Enjoy!

Thankyou for the info.
Does anyone have suggestions on specifically what sights to see, approx. how long to spend at each location, and what buses would take us to each of these?
