Manhattan club

Hello! My husband and I stayed at the manhattan club for 2 nights last weekend and its got a great location but I wodnered what others thought about the actual timeshare? we went upstairs to the bar and the barkeep was nice and the people we spoke to were nice but I was not overly impressed by the rooms. We were in a studio which had a pull out couch but originally I made the reservation for my sister,Myself and my 3 nieces to go and RCI and the manhattan club said no problem we could fit a cot on there but it would have been really tight! I would gto again but was not overly impressed sicne there was not much except that bar in the top floor that really gave it any "charm" making it like a timeshare. Please give me your thoughts on this. Thanks!

Re: Manhattan club

We owned a one-bedroom two bath unit for several years and sold it when we no longer wanted to go to the city each year. Most of the time we had another couple who used the sofa bed. With the two bath unit we had privacy. Yes, it was small but we didn't stay in the unit very much. We did eat breakfast and either lunch or dinner in the unit depending on our plans for the day. We often had a nice lunch since lunch prices are less expensive than dinner. The space doesn't compare to our two bedroom full kitchen units that we own elsewhere but the location was what we wanted. Five in a two bath unit would be pushing comfort, five in a one bath, I wouldn't do.

Re: Manhattan club

We also owned a one bedroom, two bath unit at MC for about three years. We thoroughly enjoyed every stay we had there and it was one of our favorite timeshares.

Of course, MC is not like a typical timeshare where you have a lot of room to spread out, full kitchen, pool, big fitness center, and other amenities. But there is no place like New York City either, and the location of the MC is excellent for exploring the city. Given the costs of renting hotel rooms in NY, MC is a good alternative if one plans to visit a lot. The flexibility of being able to use a few nights at a time is also a big selling point.

Re: Manhattan club

As an urban timeshare there simply isn't room to have many of the features of a timeshare such as those in Orlando and other more land rich areas. MC had a good balance of quality and features in a very tight area. I say had as the upkeep as the units age has been less than stellar. Things are showing wear and tear, services are becoming outdated (ie the poorly equipped Business Center and lack of internet service in the units - this in the business capital of the world!). At least they have removed the in room fax machines. They should have been replaced with high speed internet service IMHO. Add in the convenience charges for guests and the MC is slipping. Once a poster child for a quality experience and a gold standard similar to many Marriotts it is now a run of the mill timeshare in a great location. Still nice but not what it once was. It should be losing it's RCI award status soon if there is any truth to the rankings being based on guest experience.

I'd be interested to know how the Custom House in Boston is aging for comparison. Has Marriott kept it up to snuff or is it also deteriorating with age?
