Hawaiian Airfare for Summer 07
I was just checking airfare for next June on Hawaiian Airlines from LAX
Its over $1300 per person? Is that typical? I figured booking early would get you the best fares?

Re: Hawaiian Airfare for Summer 07
WOW! You're correct, but I did just one Hawaiian Airlines, Saturday, June 9 LAX to HNL with return June 16. They are the better flight times (for us) but the fare for two came up as $2,439.40.
Just for something to do, I'll try ITA software and others, maybe tomorrow. You might try a red-eye return and see what happens. In March, the fare differential for that was about $350. (Sunday am arrival rather than Saturday late night). Maybe something important is going on and we don't know about it ...! |

Re: Hawaiian Airfare for Summer 07
I just paid about $700 for a multi island trip from LAX (Los Angelses) to HNL ( Honolulu) to KOA (Kona) to SNA (Santa Ana/ Orange County). The cheapest portion of the route was from LAX to HNL on ATA (Southwest). It was $250 one-way. From HNL to KOA (Aloha Airlines) it was $50. From KOA to SNA direct (Aloha Airlines), it was $400 one way. This was for March of 2007.
You might want to check ATA (America Trans Air) and Aloha Airlines. That'd be your best bet. |

Re: Hawaiian Airfare for Summer 07
wow.. it just seems expensive.
I just got back from Kauai on Hawaiian Air and it was less than $500 from LAX to Kauai over 4th of July week.

Re: Hawaiian Airfare for Summer 07
I was thinking about bringing the kids next year, but at $700 or more, I will have to re-think those plans

Re: Hawaiian Airfare for Summer 07
Try ATA they handle some of the flights for Southwest and you can book further in advance than SW.

Re: Hawaiian Airfare for Summer 07
Dave,
ITA Software has ATA Flights beginning at $548 per person, June 9. return June 16. LAX. ATA web site has fare for two at $1193.60 from Ontario. Don't know where you live in So. CA, but might be a good choice. Would be for us. ATA web site from LAX for two is $1096.58. Much better pricing than Hawaiian at the moment. |

Re: Hawaiian Airfare for Summer 07
I'm in Kauai now on tickets I bought on Hawaiian last February. $450. HNL was less, maybe $375 at the time. There will be better deals. Sign up for their "deal alert" or whatever they call it on their website.
Also, sometimes Hawaiian and Aloha have deals from other airports like SNA or BUR or ONT. |

Re: Hawaiian Airfare for Summer 07
It's too early. When you do look again-try www.aavacations.com and select a fly/drive out of LAX. I went this June for less than 500 pp and that was two islands and car. I have seen recent fares as low as 257.00 but that is for Oct 2006-not prime season. What are your dates? We went early June-left on 6/3. Prices increased for later June and definitely July. Just be patient and as already stated-get on the email lists for fare alerts with Hawaiian and Aloha-nice to leave from closer airports but I know a nice little Park/sleep/fly hotel that cost me less for all the above for 16 days parking than it would have cost to park at LAX-even outer lots. AA Vacations is only booking out til 1/2007 right now-but wait a while-and be persistent and flexible and the kids can come too-I'm sure of it

I purchased a fly-drive package with cancellation insurance for any reason for our family for Nov. The airfare was $580 pp plus the price of the car for 5 days min. if we would have booked the airfare by itself then it would have been over $850 per person. This way we saved money and we have a car.
I also like the insurance because when I had enough miles for a ticket on my cc then I would book it and pay the $25 cancellation fee on my name. If the fares go down they can adjust the price but the price protection plan covers me if the price goes up. I can also change names and dates if I need to (price could change if I change dates). We use Happy tours since they have a great insurance package. Susan |

Re: Hawaiian Airfare for Summer 07
Thanks for the advice, We are actually looking at flying around July 20th 07. but I was checking June Airfares to see what to expect.
Thanks for the advice. I would love to find an airline that is as flexible with cancellation or rates changes as Southwest.

Re: Hawaiian Airfare for Summer 07
We are making our first trip to Oahu in November. I usually start looking and book airfare almost as soon as I get a confirmation. This time, I decided to hold off after reading some of the messages on TUG. It was $700 - $900 pp from Columbus, Ohio to HNL. 2 weeks ago, I booked our airfare for right around $500 pp. The special deals the airlines were offering expired the week before we traveled. They finally extended specials to include our travel dates. I checked this week and they are beginning to head up again ever so slightly.
Just thought I would pass along my experience for what it is worth. I agree that it might be too early. Susan |

Re: Hawaiian Airfare for Summer 07
Another opinion that it's too early. Although due to increase in fuel costs I'm not sure that fares will be as low as last year but I would think they'd be similar.
We've been flying to Hawaii for many years and I've found the best fares 4-6 months prior. No guarantees of course, but I'm waiting for a "sale" before I book our flights for Apr 07. |

Susan, Is Happy tours a local Oregon company, or do they have a website that an Ohio resident can book from. I tried to check for a fly/drive package on the AA link that Stressy gave us, I must be an idiot... because I don't see how to select a fly/drive package on that site. Thanks, Toni |

It's a little funky to get to where you need to be on the AA vacations site and I have no idea where you fly from and when you are going-but here goes- www.aavacations.com then on your right and below the search box will be a box that says "Search by destination" In that box is the choice "US fly/drive" it is 3rd from the bottom above disney and universal. From there-go to the second "go" box-Car with optional air to Florida and Hawaii-click on that and chose your destination. Choose only flights with the gold star and then chose your car-you must pick a car-but go down past the first set of car offerings and look at the specials-you can often get a "better" car for less than say a midsize car and then price it all out. You must rent a car-thus "Fly/Drive" but you need a car anyway. I fly from LAX and it has been a consistent good deal for me-for flights to Hawaii-peak times can vary A LOT-I have no idea how this will fare for other parts of the US-but I like to pay forward and if it benefits someone else-that's great ![]() |
