Foliage in Massanutten question

I see on the foliage.net website that the foliage is high in mid November for the Massanutten area. Can any tuggers comment on this area at this time? Would anyone recommend a better time to see this area's foliage?

Thanks for your advice.

Re: Foliage in Massanutten question

We frequently go the first weekend in November because of a school break. The foliage has ranged from near peak to a week or 2 past peak. I think mid November would be late.

It also depends on how high you are. Color works down from the higher elevations so the valley may still have good color in mid november when the surrounding hills are nearly bare.

Thanks Robnsunny. I too thought mid-November would be late.

Re: Foliage in Massanutten question

The last week in October or the first week in November has typically been a winner for us. However, this summer is unusually hot. I think the foilage may peak early, but if you pick the last week in Oct, it should still have quite a bit of color.

Re: Foliage in Massanutten question

The foliage starts to turn after the temperature drops, usually after a cold snap. The average time for the color change peak is mid to late Oct., but it all depends on when the cold fronts start coming through.
