Question Beach House Golf & Racquet Club in Myrtle Beach SC???

Has anyone been to this Myrtle resort or toured or visited somebody else staying there? The last TUG review dates back quite a few years and was written by an owner. I have a unit on hold, and I'm tempted to confirm because it's oceanfront. But it's also a resort by Defenders Resorts, and they're not the best mgmt outfit out there. I've known folks who had very bad experiences with Defenders' Ocean City MD properties. What to do, what to do?

Thanks in advance for any *quick* advice (my RCI hold expires tonight probably.)

Beach House Golf & Racquet Club in Myrtle Beach SC

Our friends live in Myrtle Beach off 67th St. near the Beach House
We went over to the resort to check it out & walk along the beach

The timeshare is a condo style building located directly on the beach
Not far from the new "Marriott" Grande Dunes area of Myrtle Beach

Great Location!

I personally do not like Defender Resorts (SC or MD)
I feel that they underbid companies for contracts and
then do not have the budget/money to do a good job

Was there March of 05. 1 bedroom not bad. You enter the bedroom, then small kitchen and bathroo, to Living area. with balcony on the ocean front. All units are ocean front, Not a gold crown but will do. Lots of supplies and close to shopping while being well away from the hustle and bustle of Myrtle Central.
Beach great for walks.

Thank you both! I held out for Hilton Head...hoping to score a cancellation. It's a closer drive for me. But thanks again for the info!

Re: Beach House Golf & Racquet Club in Myrtle Beach SC???

Hey Carol!

I missed your post last week because I was on the beach... at my original home resort, the Beach House. I've been there many times, usually off-season bonus time, but occasionally we use a full week there. The good things are all units direct oceanfront, furnishings are pretty nice, great location. Units are small, it's a converted hotel, and the BR is a walk-thru. But we have really enjoyed it off-season - we spend almost all our time either on the balcony or the beach - and it's right by a storm drain where in the past we've always seen huge numbers of birds congregating early and late in the day to feed.

This is one of the few times we've been in prime summer and while the warm water was great, I have to say that the high concentration of kids and noise got to us after a while, both at the resort (until about midnight), and everywhere else we went, such as the aquarium. The birds never came to hang out there, don't know if it was the season or just too many people. The exterior yard had some cigarette butts that should have been cleaned up more quickly (well, they shouldn't have been dropped there in the first place). And for the first time ever, we had a bad experience with one of the staff people.

Funny because while down there we had a conversation about whether we'd rather have a Marriott unit in HH that we might not get oceanfront (and an extra hour drivetime), or Beach House in MB where we're guaranteed the OF (and shorter drive), and agreed it was almost a toss-up, except the shorter drive time always has us leaning towards MB. Plus the sharks' teeth - we always collect them and found over 200 this past week.

I still think you will really prefer HH to MB. We did go see An Inconvenient Truth playing in MB - us and the 7 other people in the theater...

Hey Laurie!

I musta heard at one time that was/is your home resort. Duh...my bad, I seem to forget who owns what (but on the bright side I'm managing to keep track of what I myself still have in my t/s portfolio!)

Thanks so much for taking the time to give me your two pesos on the resort. I let the hold go and now RCI keeps tempting me with better and better exchanges...now I have a 3 br GC on HHI on hold. Decisions decisions. I'm broke but I really want to go...at least there might be actual oxygen in the air over there, unlike here in metro ATL where what passes for "air" is probably more ozone.

Hey, keep cool...and thanks again for the info!

Carol

P.S. The sparse attendance in that theater doesn't surprise me, considering the demographic.
