Cool Boston dinner/evening experience

Hi All,

Thought I'd seek advice on an interesting dining or evening experience for tonight in Boston. 6-8 of us are here at a sales meeting - we're an international crowd, some hailing from Latin Am and EMA.

I was wondering if there might be suggestions for an unusual dining experience or ideas for something special. I've got to make plans for tonight ! and tomorrow :-) .

Any suggestions would be muc appreciated!

Cheers
LAR

The North End (italian) would be fun, unusual and offer a lot of variety in restaurant choices. (walking around after dinner to get an espresso and canoli!).

Legal Seafoods is not unusual, except for the fact that it has arguably the best Lobster and Clam Chowder in the civilized world. If I had only one meal to eat in Boston, that is where I would go.

The North End on a weekend night will be hell. Anticipate a three-hour wait for a table at the more popular restaurants.

You could certainly go to Union Oyster House for a touristy dinner in a historic place, but I really don't think that the food is that great, nor is the value.

Finale, in the Theater District, serves only desserts, drinks and coffee, and can often be crowded after a show. But their desserts are quite creative, and often are very good.

Finale sounded so good I had to look it up.....they have light appetizers until
10:00 o'clock and prelude dishes until 8:00.

True, but the desserts are really the thing there. The appetizers and light bites were added after they were open for awhile, and there are many other places in Boston that are better for that. But I have had a couple of their desserts and, while expensive, they tend to be as good as or better than I've tried anywhere else.

Re: Boston dinner/evening experience

Does anyone know if there is a Legal Seafoods near Marriott Copley Place, hopefully within walking distance? If not, which one will be the easiest to get to? I'll be there in a week or so and I don't have a car...

Re: Boston dinner/evening experience

Lisa,

Would the Legal Seafoods in Copley Place be close enough?

http://www.legalseafoods.com/index.c...279&cdid=11821

I thought it might be in the Marriott, but the address is 100 Huntington Ave. The Marriott's address is 110 Huntington Ave.

Lar,

When in Boston, do the lobster thing! That's what's special about New England. Well, there's other things that are special too, but for eating one special dinner, you have to sample the local lobster.

Legal seems to be everywhere now. I remember eating at one just outside security in the terminal United is in at Logan. I wonder if the original one, I think it's in Cambridge, is still there with those long tables?

Re: Boston dinner/evening experience

Thanks for all the suggestions folks.

I should have been clearer... I'm looking for something very different. Many of us have visited Boston before. I've eaten too many times at Legal Seafood. I'm really looking for an unusual experience.

Last night I found a French Cambodian place - Elephant Walk. It was quite nice.

I still am seeking a suggestion for tonight so its not too late to throw ideas out!!

Thanks again,
LAR

Re: Boston dinner/evening experience

If you want a fun place - actually very casual and wacky, you might try Dick's Last Resort.

If you have meat eaters in your group, you might want to try a rodizzio grill (Brazilian). I'm not sure how it's spelled, but I know of the Midwest Grill in Cambridge. There are probably others in the Boston area and in Boston itself. They come around with skewer after skewer of different kinds of meats. They carve off what you want and then the next guy comes around with some other kind of meat. They also have hot and cold buffets for those who aren't into a dinner of meat. The meat lovers I know are crazy for this place.

My husband's favorite places to eat are microbreweries. I can recommend Boston Beer works. Causal and loud, but good food and several beers made on site. One is near Fenway, another near the Boston Garden and one in Salem, MA.

Let us know where you end up going!

Sue

Go check out www.chowhound.com. The Boston board, although it is getting late, ask away, I'm sure you'll get some help.

Plus check out the posts, you may hit on something on you own.

good luck

That will do! Thanks! I should have looked it up on Legal's website myself
Is this place new? I don't remember it being there three years ago.

It's their original Boston location - - what makes it confusing it that "Copley Place" is about a half mile east of "Copley Square"--get there by walking east on Stuart Street....
