Charleston, SC hotel recommendations
Looking for hotel recommendations in the historic district of Charleston for 3-4 nights Sept. 29 - Oct. 2. We are staying at Marriott Grande Ocean in Hilton Head the week before and want to add a few days in Charleston after. We don't need 5 star but looking for clean and comfortable within walking distance of the city center, preferably under $200/night. Thanks for any input you might have.

I would put my vote in for the Charleston Place. A beautiful hotel and a great location. Usually able to catch special rates at around $199 for standard/deluxe room. Give em' a ring 1.800.611.5545

Charleston Place is awesome -- expensive unless you catch a deal
Another option is the Renaissance -- you'll get Marriott points if that's your thing. Well located and quite nice. Also consider the King Charles Inn. Right on Meeting Street. Enjoy |

Re: Charleston, SC hotel recommendations
I just stayed in the Renaissance and it was nice, and in a very good location. You have to figure in parking for most places. It was $12 daily for self parking in a garage across the street.
The Embassy Suites was also in a good spot, a little more north than the Renaissance. Don't rule out renting at the Church Street Inn (excellent location). |

I would recommend Lodge Alley Inn. You can find rentals at www.bluegreenrentals.com. It's right on E. Bay Street in the center of the historic district and within walking distance of everything.
Great timeshare resort as well. |

Re: Charleston, SC hotel recommendations
Thanks for everyone's suggestions. Prices seem pretty high for my timeframe in the historic district, so after some research I decided to try Priceline and got the Renaissance Charleston for $135/night. Marriott's website is showing $299.00/night. I'm a happy camper!

You got a great deal. I just stayed there on points and had a good time. The rooms are small, but well done. The location is awesome. The restaurant was good for breakfast. Jestine's Kitchen is a block away.

I agree completely with Big Matt.
I also stayed there on points recently. You are short walk from everything. The rooms are nice -- the bed was awesome. Excellent service. A steal at that price. |
