How safe is the Dominican Republic?
My daughter and a girlfriend are considering visiting one of the timeshare resorts in Puerto Plato, Dominican Republic. Both girls are 24 and have traveled quite a bit. Her friend is very fluent in Spanish.
Has anyone been to this area recently? How safe of a trip would you consider this? |

DR
My son, dil and 2 grands, age 6 and 8 went in March. They have been several times. They stay in an AI, stay on the property except my son takes a diving trip thru the resort, and feel very safe and have a good time at a fairly reasonable price. Tell them not to venture out alone and they should be ok.

I lived in the DR for a summer and I don't consider the non-tourist areas very safe. That said, if the girls go to a resort and stay on property, taking precautions they would take in any big city in this country, they should be fine.
