Outer Banks NC
I'd like to get away for a romantic long weekend to the Outer Banks with hubby. Though I live in NC, we've never been there. We know nothing of it.
Where is the best area to stay for getting acquainted, that offers the most ambience? Were not looking to swim or lay out or anything. An evening or early morning walk on the beach is nice. We mainly like to sightsee, shop and eat well. We're not staying for a week, so timeshare is out. Does anyone know of an inn, bed and breakfast or nice hotel? Any great restaurants? Thanks! |

Dick's Crab Shack,great seadfood on Hwy 12 Nag's Head.
Try here:http://www.outer-banks.nc.us/hotels/kdhotel.htm Days' Inn Mariner seems the best. The ones with the umbrella are beachfront. Other areas have motel/hotels with few on the ocean. Off season house rentals may be fairly inexpensive. Duck and Corolla are more upscale.KDH and Nag's Head have better beach access, more restaurants etc,the others to me are too far south. You also may want to try Atlantic Beach NC. There are some outlet stores in Nag's Head on hwy 12.

We stay at the Sanderling Resort and Spa, www.thesanderling.com. It's a bit pricey, but wonderful for a getaway.

The Sanderlin Resort in Duck is the place to rekindle that romantic feeling.

I concurr with the Sanderling. Duck is a very special area, but a bit far from the sightseeing areas. Be sure to take in the Lost Colony outdoor drama in Manteo (a fair distance from Duck, however) if you are there in the summer.
Ocracoke Island is another romatic getaway place. Take the ferry over across the sound from Swanquarter. |
