If I give excess points to family and friends and they go to a resort near by, will it keep me from going to that resort because of the rule that prevents someone from going to the same resort more than once within three years?

Their account

I'm not Madge or with RCI but think I know your answer. The 1 in 4 rule applies to the account, not the points. Once you have transferred the points they become part of the other persons account and the 1 in 4 rule would apply to THEIR account NOT YOURS. Madge will get around to answering someday, but I'm sure I'm right.

Mike S.

PS If you use your account to book a "Last Call", "Extra Vacation", or a weeks unit through the "45 day exchange" program then the 1 in 4 rule would apply to your account. However if you book in a points resort through the "Standard Program" and use a Guest Certificate there is no problem because 1 in 4 applies only to weeks resorts, not to points resorts.

atlanta20060805,

Michael S. has this right.

If you transfer a week or points and the transaction is done on another account, it won't apply to your one-in-three (or four) record.

The one-in-four rule only applies to Weeks transactions. Points reservations do not observe this rule. It's important to mention that when you're confirming a vacation in RCI Weeks, even if you're using your points, the Weeks rules apply.

Do guests have their own account?

Madge,

Thanks for the response. Bear with me I'm new at this. If I give points to someone who is not an RCI member as a gift, will they have a separate account from me?

Roger

Roger,

Just for future reference - questions to the Ask RCI board are answered by Madge in chronological order. If after a few days you ask why your question hasn't been answered you are simply delaying the response as your new post will change the date stamp.
Response can take anything up to a couple of weeks although it is normally quicker. If you need a quick response you will need to phone RCI.

Roger,

If you allow a guest to confirm an RCI Weeks exchange (even if you're using points) and the resort enforces a one-in-four year rule, you won't be able to visit the resort until the four years have passed. The rule generally goes by account, but can also be applied by member if the same member has multiple accounts.
