Question Flying in to Newark to get to NYC?

I am an Alaskan FF miles holder and this is were Alaska flies into. Is it difficult to get from the Newark airport to the Manhatten Club? Just how far is is? Is JFK the most convinenient airport to fly into?

TIA

Super easy....from van or supershuttle. Or...if you have little to carry, and there are only a few of you....it takes 25 minutes from the airport rapid rail station to New York Pennsylvania Station (34th St) via NJ Transit {Last stop} or Amtrak (Con't to Boston}......but then you will have to taxi from NY Penn Station to the MC.

Others will fill you in, & read below..with links.

Its about 16 miles from Newark Airport too the MC area.....its not the distance that can be a problem....its traffic......but the trains can by pass the traffic...except as Jersey Girl & Wackymother say....luggage can really be a pain using rail service...I also say that. 25 minits verses 3 hours as John pointed out in one post.

Gayle, don't worry about flying into Newark. I've gone from there to the Manhattan Club by taxi, town car, and train to Penn Station, and all worked just fine.

Yes, in fact Newark is probably the easiest of the three major NYC airports to deal with. JFK is the hardest. Have fun!

Newark , YES!

My wife (and 16-yo daughter) just recently traveled to NYC with her best friend (and her 16-yo daughter)....a "girl trip"...and they flew into Newark, also.... and a shuttle service (a private Lincoln Towncar) picked them up at the airport and took them straight into downtown NYC (they stayed at the Marriott Renaissance Hotel/Times Square using rewards points), and the cost was somewhere around $50 total for all four, for the ride into NYC---said they could have requested van, Suburban, etc, depending on number of people)......took 30+ minutes, she said. Anyway, it was a wonderful way to go, as they all felt very comfortable, not having to take a regular cab, train, etc. Plus the guy was just super-nice, and took them to the front door of the Renaissance....it made me feel better too, knowing they were in safe hands. They adored the hotel and the way they traveled. Given the prices of everything ELSE, especially meals (they splurged a bit on meals!), they felt like it was definitely worth it to take this method into NYC. They spent 4 nights and had a blast. If we ever go together (just the two of us) , or as a family, we will do the same. I still don't know the total damage from the SHOPPING, as the credit card bill hasn't come in, but it was a once-in-a-lifetime trip for those girls. I think they're still in hog-heaven, as they haven't stopped talking about it. "The food, the food", as I hear a lot... was the best....my daughter said a hotdog from a street vendor was her highlight! And the great NY pizzas! Also said the Carnegie Deli had awesome Reuben sandwiches, and other stuff. Every day I hear something new that they suddenly remember, and as they watch TV, they see stuff they did! Chinatown, Little Italy, whatever....Daughter got a pair of earrings from Tiffany's ( has to be another highlight!) ...all in all, I got a TON of brownie points for the whole thing. They also went to two broadway productions (Hairspray was one), and they were great fun. (Tough life, huh?) Anyway, I would also second the flight into the Newark airport....we've had many friends do the same, with similar raves....jme

I live near the MC and fly into Newark frequently. It is an easy trip.

The best way is by hired car. I recommend against the taxi's available at the Newark Airport taxi stand - they are not NYC yellow cabs and my experience has been that they are universally in very poor shape. The cabs also cost the same as the hired car. The cost is, I think, $40 plus tolls ($6)and tip. The cars are typically very nice lincoln town cars.

If you want the number for a car service into Manhattan that I have had good luck with in the past, send me a PM and I will be happy to forward you their info.

If you are looking for a more budget-minded way, you can take the train directly from the airport. I have never done it but it looks like it is a safe and clean way to travel, albeit slower and probably a little more of a hassle - I think that you have to change trains once before you get into Manhattan (Penn Station I think) and then take another Subway or cab ride to MC. I think the cost is under $10 per person for the train plus another $5 +/- for the taxi.

Good luck.
