We talk about the phishing scams all the time but, they're looking more real and more professional, no grammar/spelling mistakes, links that take you to login screens that look really real! Watch out. I got one today that makes you want to click and fill in your info!!!

Setup unique PayPal only email ID with your account

One thing I have done that has helped me a lot is to change my default PayPal email ID. I have setup a unique email ID that is only to be used for PayPal. Since I don't use it for any other communication, no one knows about it, so no SPAMmer gets it!

If I get an email from supposedly PayPal, and if the email doesn't come to this unique PayPal-only email ID, I can easily determine it is not from them.

Ebay Scams

I get so many phony E-Mails, including ones like you described that look very legitimate that I have made it a habit to never respond to the E-Mails, regardless of how legitimate they look. Instead I go to My Ebay and if it is a legitimate message it will be in My Messages. If it's there, I respond through Ebay. If it's not there, no response. It's the only way I know of to guarantee you don't get scammed.

I get a lot of fake emails, too. Paypal has said if the email doesn't begin with your name that you signed up with at Paypal, then it's a bogus email.

Thus far, all of the fake emails never had my name. It always had "Dear Paypal User" or something along that order. That right there is a dead give away to me.

As for eBay, I do exactly what the previous poster said above. I go directly to my Inbox at eBay. If the message isn't there, they don't receive a response.

I too have an email name I used ONLY for eBay and PayPal. I have recently been getting spam addressed to it. This suggests that someone I bought from or sold to harvested it and sold it.

But it took five years for that to happen, and now I can change it and kill the old one.

I have never ever used paypall and get them on occassion, I report as spam or abuse.

Just had one yesterday and reported it. Got a msg thanking me for forwarding to them.

The real emails I've gotten from paypal don't include clickable links. The scammers always have clickable links in their emails to try to get you to enter your personal information on their website.

The last e-mail on this subject I received from Paypal did have my full name on it. I still didn't respond via the e-mail link and never would.
