We are thinking about a long weekend in Newport at the beginning of April. I read somewhere that many restaurants close during the winter. Does anyone have any experience with Newport in the early spring? Any suggestions on where to stay? Thanks in advance!

If you are looking for a hotel, there is a Marriott and a Hyatt hotel. We have stayed in the Hyatt, which is on Goat Island. It is very nice, and we are going there for a weekend in May. We were able to get a good price on priceline. The Marriott, although we have not stayed there, we have been in the lobby, and it also looks very nice. The prices in the spring are much more affordable than the summer prices, which can be very steep! Last year, we went to Newport in Jan. and in Feb. Obviously offseason, and we were surprised that there were so many shops and restaurants open. We enjoyed the Red Parrott alot. We were a family with two children, had we been without the children there were many fine restaurants to choose from. Just remember, although Newport is a great, great place to visit, it is quite expensive. Have a great time, and let us know if you enjoyed your stay. Sue

April could be a little chilly.

I went last may and the temps were in the 70's.

If you are talking about an exchange(places to stay), Fairfield has a bunch of places in Newport, so you could walk almost everywhere for what the town had to offer.

It was a great stay with much to do, great restaurants to eat, and the views around the town were wonderful.
