after reading a post on one of the boards i got to wondering" DO YOU THINK YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO POST A RATING REVIEW ON YOUR OWN RESORT AND CAN YOU REALLY BE OBJECTIVE??

Yes I believe I can be objective about my home resort. I don't actually occupy all that often so changes, for the good or bad, are pretty obvious to me.

I'm wondering, do you wonder in all caps? While it is certainly something to wonder about, the spot in resort reviews where it says Owner: Yes/No takes care of that. The reader can form his/her own opinion based on that.

Well, I think this depends on the person, but for me, if anything, I am more critical of my own resorts (because as an owner I expect more) than of places where I exchange in. Over the last few years I have written reviews & rated about a dozen resorts, and of those I have rated two Club Intrawest resorts as in the lower half (in terms of rating numbers) of those stays. But I tend to be pretty critical in general, and also tend to go by the TUG guidelines for ratings, so there are very few resorts out there that even start with a potential 10.

Rating your own resort

I truley believe you should be able to rate your own resort objectivlely. Most of us (me included) have bought our resorts sight unseen through the resale market. We have weighed everyone elses opinions on the resort & made our decision to purchase, partially based on those observations. When, & if, we ever visit our Home Resort, we would be looking at it through fresh eyes, all be it with a pre-set expectation just as someone would who has traded into the property.

If I Have No Buyer Regret, Does That Mean I Am No Longer Objective?

Two of the 4 timeshares we currently own we bought sight unseen. (Shucks, we still haven't seen either of those 2, & may not ever get there -- bought'm for points & trades rather than direct use.)

The most recent timeshare we bought is an EEY copy of the every-year timeshare we bought sight unseen in 2002 (which we resold in 2003). That is to say, we were flying blind in 2002 but had our eyes wide open when we bought in again earlier this year.

Of the 5 timeshare purchases, 2 were from distressed private owners, 2 were via eBay, & 1 was through a timeshare broker who advertises on TUG.

Even so, we liked all of'm enough to spring for'm in the 1st place & we have no current plans to try & shuck any of'm off -- so maybe we are less than perfectly objective about the whole thing.

Then again, when we sold off Phase One in order to "upgrade" to Phase Two, did we regain some objectivity only to lose it again upon moving our home resort across the street from the 1 we started out with? If so, how objective was our recent decision to buy back in at Phase One?

I suspect the answer for lots of us resale timeshare owners has more to do with our individual perceptions of Value For Money than it does with any hint of intent on the part of anyone to say...
