We leave in two weeks for Sweetwater @ Lake Conroe, in Montgomery, Texas. Can anyone tell me what would be the best place to pick up groceries on the way in?

We are also looking for a Dollar Store, as it is a great place to pick up things like tinfoil for the BBQ, plastic wrap, etc. We are flying, so can't always bring that type of stuff. TIA

Since you are flying, you should be coming north on I 45, there is a kroger on I 45, I think one past (North) the exit for 105. At the intersection of I45 & 105 ( and I believe you take 105 to sweetwater) there is a shopping center with a Target, home depot, and best buy etc.

You won't be short of grocery stores if you are coming from the airport. There is also a Super Walmart, Randalls, Krogers along I-45. Lots of restaurants and Conroe Outlet Shopping Center. Woodlands has a nice Shopping Mall with lots of major department stores. Have fun!

Thanks so much for your replies and suggestions. We are getting very excited about our trip. Only 2 weeks to go!

As you go from Sweetwater toward Montgomery there is a Super Walmart on the left side of the road about 3 miles, also Montgomery has a nice sized local grocery store. I would recommend exiting 45 to 336 west to 105 to bypass some of the traffic in Conroe. You will miss some of the store listed above though. 45 bottlenecks traffic just before and through Conroe.

Enjoy your vacation

texas renaissance festival

I just returned from that area. While you are there you might want to check out their Renaissance Festival in near by Plantersville, Tx. Their website: //www.texrenfest.com. The grounds are awesome. It is a permanent site with several "gardens." It looks like there are over 300 "shoppes" as well as demonstrations in glassblowing, armourer, coin making, metal casting, blacksmithing, broommaking and printing. They also have over 10 areas for various entertainers.

I second the Wandering Gnome's post. We also attended the festival 6-7 November and enjoyed both days. It's a beautiful setting, the shows are entertaining, and the crowd isn't maddening.

We stayed at Piney Shores and loved the resort just as much.

Thanks for your help and advice, everyone! I'm printing this thread and taking it with us on Saturday. Only 3 more days! We're really looking forward to our trip.

We are back from our Trip to Sweetwater and Landing at Seven Coves, and had a great time. The weather was not very nice, some days it was colder than in Toronto! Pools were not heated at either resort (disappointing), but we did a lot of travelling and sightseeing. We loved San Antonio, and had lots of fun on our sidetrip to Lake Charles, Louisiana. We stayed for 2 nights at the Inn at the Isle, at Isle of Capri Hotel and Casino. I got lucky and won $300!. All in all, a great trip, and again, thanks to all for your helpful advice.
