Question Duty-Free Liquor

We're traveling to the Caymans and understand that the liquor is expensive there. We are not packing any liquor, as some recommend on this forum, due to luggage weight constraints.

We have never purchased duty-free anything but question if we should purchase some duty-free liquor going into Grand Cayman. We have a two hour layover in Atlanta which may provide time to purchase this.

Have any Tuggers purchase duty-free liquor and would you recommend doing this?

Can we even do this with the TSA restrictions?

What % would we save vs. purchasing when we arrive in Cayman (is it worth doing this)?

What's the process? Is the liquor then carry-on so it won't impact our luggage restrictions?

Do we have to pay additional taxes and duty when we arrive in Grand Cayman?

Thanks for your responses!!

Caution

I would caution you to find out exactly what you can carry on given the current TSA guidelines.

I read of people who had to dump expensive perfumes and liquors after our recent scare. Just make sure that you will be able to carry whatever you buy back home.

TSA allows duty free liquids

From the TSA.gov web site:

"Beginning September 26, 2006, liquids, gels, and aerosols purchased after completing security screening at the checkpoint may be carried aboard an aircraft. This includes duty-free shops as well as other vendors inside the security checkpoint."
