Unhappy Aeroplan miles will now expire in 7 years

For all Canadian travellers who collect Aeroplan miles, Aeroplan recently announced that Aeroplan miles will expire in 7 years, starting Jan 1, 2007. All miles collected before Jan. 1, 2007 will expire Dec. 31, 2013.

Also you will be required to add or redeem miles once a year starting July 1, 2007, otherwise the account will be cancelled.

For more read the article on CBC News. http://www.cbc.ca/consumer/story/200...leschange.html

Figures!

Yet one more way Aeroplan makes things difficult! I am also redeeming reward tickets (Air Miles, AvionAventura points, Aeroplan)so it would not be unusual for me to not have a paid flight in a year, especially in my kids accounts. It will take more monitoring. My prediction is that they will shortly announce that all seats are now available as Aeroplan seats, albeit at higher point levels (avenue rewards). They hinted at this earlier in the year, but I haven't seen an official announcement yet. I think that's how they will justify the new rules.

Making all seats airmiles seats at higher prices might already be available.

Yesterday I went on line to Aeroplan website and typed in a round trip from Vancouver to LA over the Christmas week with dates in the appropriate windows. I got a response that said it would cost me 45,000 points.

I did not pursue it any further because that many points is rediculous but there were indeed dates and flight times listed so it must be so.
