Duty free

I am going to be making a trip to the Caribbean soon. In the past I have always brought back some duty free liquor. I don't like the odds that it will not get broke if I pack in my luggage, so I usually carry it on.
With the new rules it does not look like I can do this.
Has anyone done this since the new liquids carry on rules. What is the best strategy to get duty free liquor back.

You buy it at the airport duty free store and they meet you before you board the plane and give it to you to carry on the plane. This is what I have observed.

That was the process on our return from Cancun. Purchase the liquor at the duty free store after you clear security. They scan your passport and log your airline flight number & gate. Tag the merchandise and then they have runners delivering the product to your gate. Pick up the package as you board the plane. I purchased two 1 Liter bottles of Stolichnaya Vodka for $11.00 each...wish I could have brought home a case!!!!

If you are flying into or out of a British based island you still cannot have ANY liquids on board with you. We just went through the airport in Tortola this weekend and were not allowed any liquids.

But they will then confiscate it from you at your connecting airport in the U.S. So, no duty free unless you are flying home nonstop, which is extremely rare from the Caribbean to most West Coast destinations.
