Hi To All:  This is my question for everyone that owns a Timeshare. If investment funds, fees, etc. were EQUAL in all the "Marriott" Timeshares. Where would you buy and why? Not knowing the ins and outs of timesharing this might help me with many questions I have. Thanks :)

I would buy where I want to go year after year.

There is NO answer better than that one....time to close this thread!

The Marriott resorts in Hawaii have the best trading power but the highest MF and Up-front cost.

The Hilton Head resorts in summer seem to trade very well but I never been there so can't comment.

Orlando is overbuilt but the Marriott still trade well, because they're "The Marriotts".

The Caribbean resorts seem great with similar comments to Hawaii resorts and also hard to fly to.

Southwest resorts ( Phoenix, LV, Palm Springs and SoCal) closer to were we live thereforemore attractive to me. Like the winter TS in the desert and like Socal all the time.

IMHO, the best mix of high trading power, cost, MF, ease of travel, great resort is Newport Coast. But NCV doesn't have lock-offs which I'd like to have in a TS.

Given the assumptions of all other factors the same then the first response is what I would go with -- buy where you want to stay -- you avoid the hassle and cost of trading.

If all was the same including purchase price and yearly fees, I'd want platinum plus Maui or Aruba. But of course that's not reality and I'd agree with the above post of a combo of factors. First is still, will you use it and if so, how much. Then it's a combo if price, yearly fees, trading power, lock off options, rentability and personal use. The list of options are almost endless given the variables. Spend some time and get a feel for this area for yourself and see what's best for you. Try to come up with a few options if possible then look for the right price for your needs.

I would buy exactly where I did buy - Aruba. It's our favorite vacation destination. But that is what should be your deciding factor. I don't see the point of buying just to have trading power. Buy where you like to go, like others have said.

MARRIOTT OCEAN POINTE on singer island, platinum season. love the resort, love west palm area, reasonable airfare, or with 2 ownerships i could drive and stay 4 weeks, great restaurants in the area, and a variety of things to do and see if i got tried of the pool and beach:whoopie:

Vacation Investment

Timehare ownership is an investment in quality vacationing. It affords many the opportunity to vacation at premium facilities in places where they might never get to go if they didn't own an interval. Additionally, it kind of forces us to make time for vacation (which is something we might not do if not for our timeshare ownership).

Where one owns depends on why we own...so, I agree with the above threads. If you're considering timeshare ownership, and it's strictly to get away, then purchase where you want to vacation. Like any other purchase, you'll most likely get what you pay for, so buy a quality unit at a quality location and you'll have many years of enjoyment to look forward to.

If the dollars were all equal the time of year I'd be travelling would be my deciding factor.

Jan - Mar: Ocean Pointe
April - June: Grande Ocean
December: Aruba

For the rest of the year, I'd use any of the above to travel anywhere else by trading.

well said. My wife and I both would not have enjoyed 10 years of wonderful travel at many locations/resorts if it were not for the 1 BD we bought in 1996. It just seems so daunting to spend the $150-$250+/night in a condo-type setup which most TS's are that we would have ended up just hitting the motel 6 or something.

But the flipside is, if you buy the TS and don't use it, it's sort of like a gym membership that many people own but don't use ... a waste of money.

TS !!! or is it not called "Vacation Ownership" ? Oh yes, I been to one too many of those Marriott 'tours' LOL
