Bumps on Southwest?

We will be flying for the first time on Southwest this coming Friday. Just wondering if they offer bumps. I know that some airlilnes do, and others, like Jet Blue do not. We always ask, and have been lucky several times in the past.

TIA.

JetBlue generally avoids offering compensation for overbooking, because it tries - more so than most other airlines - to avoid overbooking. Still, even JetBlue has to occasionally ask for a few volunteers.

Southwest operates more like the legacy carriers and overbooks regularly, seeking to maximize the number of passengers on every flight. Thus, offering compensation to volunteers is a regular occurrence on Southwest.

One advantage to Southwest's compensation is that the airline has within the past two months started handing out electronic vouchers as compensation. Thus, if you get $300 in electronic vouchers for volunteering to take a later flight, you can use those vouchers online in booking your next Southwest trip. That's not possible yet on most other airlines.

Thanks Dave! We'll give it a try this weekend when we fly to Houston.
