Question Canadian T/cheques to Puerto Vallarta?

I need some advice. When going to Mexico, I usually convert Cdn$$ to US travellers cheques.

However, to Puerto Vallarta in December, I thought I would take Cdn travellers cheques instead and thereby save the conversion twice. I also plan to have US cash and my ATM & VISA cards, but I also want to have some travellers cheques tucked away for just in case.

Any thoughts, pros and cons about taking travellers cheques in Cdn $$ instead of US $$?

Thank you. Tuggers are always so well informed, travelled and helpful.

I never convert to US dollars unless I am going to the US. Why would I, that would be paying twice for exchanges.

You can get a good exchange for Canadian dollars (as well as any number of other currencies) in Mexico.

Or you can just order pesos through your local bank and take them down with you.

Enjoy your holiday!

It's more than 5 years since I've carried TCs. I take a small amount of local currency with me from Canada to start us off and then use my bank card to draw cash directly from my account. I have found these conversion rates to be fine and the fees are usually a few dollars per transaction. These rates have always been better than what I could get exchanging C$ TCs into the local currency.

Steve advice is the most current advice for exchanging money in any foreign country.

Get a little of the local currency at home from your bank, then use ATM machines when you get there.
