United Snacks always for purchase?

Are snack boxes available for purchase even on short flights with United?

We are flying Spokane-Denver-Orlando. Our flight leaves at 6:25 am and I am not sure if we can get breakfast that early before our flight. The flight is just over 2 hours and our layover in Dever is only 50 minutes. Travelling with two little kids and all of the airport carryon restrictions have me a little worried.

Any one have any suggestions for food on United or food at the Spokane airport?

Thanks

My suggestion is that you take some food with you.

From the UAL site:
Quote:
We offer SnackBoxes on United and TedSM flights that depart prior to 8:00 PM and are over 3 hours in length. Each SnackBox is $5.00 and only cash is accepted.

Airport carryon regulations

Can you bring liquids in carryon? How strict are the rules for what items you can bring on board?

This article tells what you can and cannot bring on in carry-on bags. You now can bring on drinks you purchase at the airport after you have passed security check points.

United does not offer snack boxes for sale on short flights -- at least not on flights Burbank-Denver, Denver-Omaha.
If you go to the United site, you can learn more specifically when snack boxes are offered for sale.

I agree, pack and bring your own food. Even if you can buy a snack box for your Denver to Orlando flight, I think they have odd things in them and odd combinations. At least the few I have seen!

I recently flew FAT-DEN on a UAX CR7 (about a 2 hour flight) and received a nice snack box.....

in F

Rule of thumb....do not expect any significant food on a plane domestically (in coach/economy), for free or money. Much better IMO to bring your own on board or eat on the concourse. Airport food has come a long way. Wish I could say the same for in-flight food. I did discover UA's special in-flight meals and have been pretty satisfied with those.

No restrictions that I know of on concourse-purchased food and beverages being brought on-board and consumed. As long as you remain in the sterile area, you're OK. Liquid rules will apply if you leave it for any reason, at least currently.

UA's snack boxes are pretty yucky IMHO.

As a meal, definitely. I have found, spread over a couple trips as snacks, they're not too bad. I look for every angle when doing MR's.

When traveling with my wife, we generally route to be in F on meal flights, or eat in the concourse. I carry a few healthy snacks for her, as she is hypoglycemic. I've found, on UA, the special meals in F are quite healthy and tasty. I've tried the AVML, DBML, and Obento meal on Japan flights.

I've never purchased the snack boxes but have purchased the meals that are offered. The breakfast one isn't bad, fruit, cheese and crackers, yogurt and some type of breakfast "bread". Lunch is generally a choice of a salad or a sandwich (or wrap). If you don't have time to pack your own food it works.

The wraps are pretty good. The snacks have something like salami, cheese, crackers/breadsticks, salsa and cookie or something like that.

Pat, what does the obento meal consist of?

If you've ever had an obento box in Japan, it was really similar; there were courses, most included in a "box". There was also miso soup and a small fruit bowl. I remember some sushi, vegetables, pickled roots and a number of things I couldn't describe, as I know precious little of authentic Japanese food.

I've come to like such meals, even though they seem less filling, because they're healthy and I seem to be less jet-lagged when eating them. In the case of our trip to KIX, we had "lunch" and "dinner" in C. My wife had the standard meal, which was also quite good.

Some other meals I've had....reports by others...

The last meal, a DBML, though on LH, is remarkably similar to a UA DBML I had about a month ago on a DEN-ATL flight (and return) in F, though not as nicely presented. Very nutritious and tasty. My F seat-mates got their choice of a Thai chicken salad or sausage sandwich. I was very impressed.

Love special meals

Thank you all so much. As usual you are always a great source of info. I will make sure I stock up on the concourse before we board.
