Colorado....last minute.....

O.k.....poor planning......spur of the moment.....whatever you want to call it. She wants to go to Colorado.....doesn't care where.....as long as there is a mountain. hmmmmm......and at Christmas. And she tells me today......

Help......any ideas? Doesn't have to be a timeshare.......but gee.

I promise I will not push her off the mountain.

In the ski areas the toughest trade is Christmas-New Years.

No results were found for your search criteria.

In a place like Estes Park you may able to get in, maybe even Rams Horn or Worldmark, since it is not a ski area and RMNP is not very accessible, if at all.

You can see mountains from there and EP is a nice little town.

Listings from Redweek with likely-negotiable asking prices -

Falcon Point in Avon 12/22-29 $1,600
Grand Timber in Breckenridge 12/22-29 $3,500
Marriott's Streamside in Vail 12/22-29 $3,700
Sheraton's Mountain Vista in Avon 12/23-30 $1,700
Twin Rivers in Winter Park 12/22-29 $1,200
Worldmark Steamboat Springs 12/23-1/1 (9 nights) $1,000

The sizes of the above listed offerings vary from studios to multiple bedrooms.

Resorts: Way too many! Selling some, giving some away, keeping the best....
I highly recommend Twin Rivers. I own there and am on the HOA board. I also only live about 1 1/2 hours from there.

You can call the resort and check to see if an owner is going to rent a week through them. www.twinrivers.org Hatrack (member here that you can PM) owns a week 51 or 52, cannot remember which, and he rented it out for a great price last year. He would probably know whether he is using his this year. His is a three bedroom unit. Kitchens are new, the bathrooms are nice, but no whirlpool bathtubs. There are two really nice hot tubs in the clubhouse, about the only amenity

Sleigh rides, complete with hot cocoa, tons of snow at that time of year and an icy river onsite at the resort, Winter Park is a winter wonderland. With a nice gas fireplace in every unit to keep you cozy and warm, and beautiful views of the mountains all around, it would be the ideal spot for a Christmas vacation. Pines at Meadowridge is another nice resort up there. You can look for a listing there as well, same management company.

Can she wait until January?

There are 1BRs for FF Pagosa for 1/05/07, for $179 via Last Call.

I'd check Denver craigslist, VRBO, and Skyauction for last minute places. Good luck.

I ran into a similar situation with my Son but with a little more warning, March in the Keystone, Breckenridge area. As I ran into the same thing last year with him, my solution was to buy him a Fixed Week 9 from Stroman at a resort we knew and had previously traded into. I put it into his name so now he is a proud timeshare owner. Cost was around $1,500 ($1,000 + $400 or so Closing Cost + $50 Resort Transfer Fee). Annual MF is around $400. I told him that the Annual MF would be my ongoing Xmas present to him until I move on into the great beyond (I'm 72 but in good health). After that he will be on his own. It sure beats paying rent and the hassle of finding something at the last minute.

George,

What resort did you get for that price? I'd be interested in knowing.

Orofino at Straight Creek in Dillon. Large units down in the valley and right off the highway. Don't look like much from the outside, but ok by my standards inside.
