We took a sightseeing tour in Savannah a few years ago...can't remember too much about it other than it oriented us and gave us good information to start our visit. We always try to do that in a new city, and find it worthwhile. Loved Savannah, by the way.

Savannah trolley

We were just in Hilton Head, Savannah & Charleston in Sept.

In Savannah we used Old Town Trolley - http://www.historictours.com/savannah/

The entire route takes about 90 minutes and the driver gives you some history and points out sights as you go along. With the on-off ticket you can get off and on as much as you want for the day.
It was a great way to get oriented and then we went back to the places we wanted to see.
We really enjoyed our time there.

You can get on the tour bus from the visitor's center on River Street. The free shuttle is nice in that it goes back and forth from Hutchinson Island to River Street. Parking near the Westin and taking the shuttle to River Street makes for easier parking than finding something on Bay Street.

Old Town Trolley

We took the Old Town trolley when we were there also. The driver was great with us/the kids. We really enjoyed it. There were on/off privileges and the driver told us that our ticket was good for the next day too-don't remember if it was free or for a very small fee.

Hi Marty, took the river boat cruise from HHI around the lighthouse and went into Savannah for the day, the trolley is right there and you can get a discount if you want to tour around.. or you can just get off at River St and shop, eat,etc... we took the tour, orange tour buses... can get off and on and gives you a great overview of the city and highlights.. we get off at City Square I think its called or something like that...and there are nice eateries and a great store, Savannah Candy Kitchen... there is also a kitchen on River St but much smaller... would recommend , nice day out and nice boat ride through to Savannah....

We used the Gray Line Trolley Tours to see the historic downtown area.
As others have mentioned get the on/off trolley privileges so you can walk around at your own pace and then take the trolley to get to a point of interest that is too far away to walk to.

We went on a trolley and got some great info on old historic homes, and places worth seeing, but we really enjoyed just walking around and soaking up the atmosphere..You won't be disappointed with a day trip to Savannah. There is a great restraunt there, called the Pirates House, at least it was there a few years ago. Enjoy!!

Cool

this past spring we went on a narrated trolley tour in Savannah. We used Old Savannah Tours. (name might be wrong, but they are the white trolleys). We picked it up at the Visitors Information center, paid $22 for the hop on/of privledges. We rode on threedifferent trolleys and each had a good tour guide. We enjoyed taking the trolley nearly the full tour, and following along on our maps highlighting places we wanted to explore more on foot.

The trolley has high open areas so you and good views, the seats were cushioned. Overall, it was a tour company I would highly recommend.

In the evening we did a ghost walk which was cheesey but fun as well.

Savannah is really best seen on foot, but the trolley helped us introduce us to her.

If you can manage it, a trip through a graveyard, just on your own is very interesting.....those are the places that are of real historic interest to me as well....Savannah has some beauties!!!

November 10, 2006 - Thursday - Temps 80 - Warm & Sunny

Our first attempt at riding the Free CAT Shuttle

We parked at the "Savannah Visitors Center" MLK parking lot. Then went
inside to pick up a CAT schedule & to ask where to board the Shuttle Bus

The CAT shuttle runs every 20 minutes however for some reason it was not
on time today. We never saw a CAT Shuttle - Just the regular CAT Buses

We went back to our car and drove over and parked near the Hyatt Hotel
Savannah River Front - The Hyatt is a Beautiful Hotel with Indoor Atrium.
