Mascara question

I am flying next week and have not flown since the zip loc baggie change. Can I pack a small tube of mascara in the baggie?

Thanks!

What to bring

The only thing I know from flying 2 weeks ago is a lady had to get rid of her liquid make-up in Vegas before security would let her through.

As long as it's less then 2.5 oz, you are fine. Please put all the liquid bottles in a plastic Ziploc bag and show them to the screener. I just flew yesterday. I had contact lens solution, liquid makeup and small toothpaste. None were taken from me.

I agree, except that the containers must be less than three ounces in size. Also, be sure to note that it's the container size that matters, not how much liquid or gel is in the container.

Your makeup will be fine, as long as it is in an allowable sized container and fits in the one-quart bag. Look at the photo at this TSA page and you'll see that you can bring almost anything you'll need, within those packing restrictions.

See this page for confirmation that makeup is permitted.

Thanks for the correction, DaveM. I don't know where I got 2.5 oz number maybe because that's my contact lens container size

Actually, Lisa, I think your 2.5 ounces container size is a better guide, particularly if the size is not stated on the outside of the container. If TSA believes the size is over 3.0 ounces, zap, it's gone!

Great link, Dave M.

So given the text (edited) below, it sounds like we should be able to bring on juices for our autistic children? It also lists that we can bring the cooling packs that keep them cool? What do you think?

To ensure the health and welfare of certain air travelers there are no limits on the amounts of the following liquids, gels and aerosols you may carry through a security checkpoint:

Liquids including water, juice, or liquid nutrition or gels for passengers with a disability or medical condition;

Gels or frozen liquids needed to cool disability or medically related items used by persons with disabilities or medical conditions.

You are not limited in the amount or volume of these above items you may bring in your carry-on baggage. However, if these items are in containers larger than three ounces, please perform the following:

Separate these items from the liquids, gels, and aerosols in your quart-size and zip-top bag.
Declare you have the items to one of our Security Officers at the security checkpoint.
Present these items for additional inspection once reaching the X-ray. These items are subject to additional screening.

This was in my email just today. This is from British Airways, and applies for European travel:

Effective November 6th 2006, the European Union, including the United Kingdom, will implement new security rules that permit the carrying of liquids, gels, and pastes in limited quantities through airport security in passenger hand baggage.

This new policy applies to all passengers on all carriers who are departing from, or transferring through any EU gateway, as well as those departing from or transferring through Albania, Kosovo, Switzerland, Norway, and Iceland. This means the same policies apply for any customers travelling from or through all of these countries.

These new rules bring the EU policies more closely in line with current policies for US and Canadian-departing flights, and ensure that customers transferring on British Airways flights in the UK will be able to carry liquids, gels, and pastes in limited quantities onboard to their final destination. Liquids must be held in individual containers not exceeding approximately 3.5 fluid ounces or 100ml.

Please note that customers departing from the USA and Canada may take limited quantities of liquids in individual containers not exceeding 3 fluid ounces or 90 ml.

Liquids, gels and pastes that may be carried onboard include:
Shampoo, creams, hair gel, hair spray, suntan lotions, toothpaste, liquid or aerosol deodorants, perfumes, cosmetics such as mascara and lip gloss, water and other drinks, soups, and syrups. Other items of similar consistencies may also be carried on board.

All liquid, gel, and paste containers must be carried in a clear plastic, zip-top or re-sealable bag that does not exceed 20cm x 20cm (8 inches x 8 inches) or one-quart capacity. Each passenger will be permitted to carry one of these re-sealable bags.

Items must fit in the bag comfortably and the bag must be completely closed. At the airport security search, the plastic bag must be removed from the cabin bag and x-ray screened separately.

For more information on this policy, along with other baggage information and information on duty free goods, please visit batraveltrade.com.

Best regards,

British Airways

One more question - is it allowable to put a small amount of lotion or liquid make-up in a small zip-loc baggie, inside the one quart baggie?

Thanks for all the great info!
