Flying to Florida after New Years
I plan to fly with my two sons (age 6 and 10) from Buffalo to Orlando on New Year's Day and return on the weekend of January 13/14. We already have timeshare accommodation. There's actually a bit of flexibility in terms of which day and time we fly, except I don't want to fly early on New Year's Day because I'm going to a big bash the night before.
So, I was wondering if anyone knows the best deal? I searched on Expedia and found the three of us can fly for about $1,056 Canadian dollars (not sure what this is in US bucks). Any better ideas? Also, I'm looking for cheap car rental. Expedia suggests I will have to pay about CDN $500for two weeks. Appreciate your insights. |

I think you can do better than that
Are you talking about Buffalo, NY? If so, try AirTran. I'm seeing round trips from $261 USD, which I think is about $295 CAD. Also seeing good prices on Continental.
Your car rental price sounds very high to me. Florida has very good prices on car rentals, depending upon what you're looking for. Do some searching on KAYAK.COM. This site searches all the direct sources (the actual airline and car rental sites) as well as the other discount travel sites (Orbitz, CheapTickets, etc.). |

Sometimes AirTran runs out of cheap seats (as you'll see for 1 January).
Keep checking daily to see if they don't bank another batch in about 6 to 9 days. ----------------- Sometimes we fly into Sarasota or Tampa and rent a car. Hate to make the drive, but rentals sometimes make it affordable. With Airtran, you can fly One Way. Maybe go into Sarasota or Tampa, drive to Orlando and fly home One Way from there. They may or may not charge a dropoff fee for doing so, but it is a deal if rental is enough cheaper in Tampa. |

Check flights on www.sidestep.com. We use them all the time. I'd also visit Southwest's site. They don't show up on Sidestep, and their fares are often phenomenal! $500 is very high for car rental, so keep checking daily. If you book directy with the car agencies, when a lower price appears, you can cancel the old reservation and rebook at the lower price.
