Resorts: Bluegreen points- Lodge Alley Inn
Yes

I'm a LAI Bluegreen owner, have stayed, and also own a second home in the historic district of Charleston. The two bedroom units vary. I would be wary of being streetside though I understand Bluegreen was updating some windows and soundproofing. A courtyard unit would be better.

Yes, Charleston decorates.

Resorts: Morritts Tortuga Club
The East Bay Street side of LAI can be very noisey. We stayed in a one bedroom over there over Christmas in 2003. The courtyard units are much quieter.

Parking is close at a public garage. You can walk to most everything you will need to see. The city parking garages are a great deal compared to the surface lots that are privately owned.

Be careful of the Blue Green salespersons. They are everywhere.

This is really a nice resort in the middle of a beautiful city.

Charleston

Haven't stayed there, but walked thru there on an unofficial tour (not by a salesperson, but by a front-desk person, and again, alone another time, with keys in hand), and it's very, very nice. (The other timeshare there is also very nice, the Lodge Alley Inn...both are 5-stars, and we walked thru both, and loved both. Both are in the downtown historic district near "the Battery", which is where you want to be. I would NOT hesitate to stay at either place, and they're both in a great location. They're not glitzy, but beautiful nonetheless. BTW, there's a great little breakfast place called Baker's Cafe on King St..... It's fantastic for breakfast/brunch! Also, the Hominy Grill, featured on Rachel Ray's TV show. Both are Fantastic, and a favorite of the locals and tourists alike! They don't advertize a lot, but they don't need to. I have also included a few sites for dining at the bottom here. (BTW, 83 Queen , a fine-dining restaurant, is a good place for a romantic dinner, and has an outdoor terrace garden setting in addition to indoors---outdoors is gorgeous at night with the "garden-style" lighting. Good luck. Did you realize that Charleston is one of the top five cities in the US as a destination city???? Once you visit, you'll see why. Make SURE you do some sort of tour thru the old homes in the historic district, either guided or by oneself. During warmer months there are horse & buggy tours. Some historic homes are open, and some just have beautiful gardens and are gorgeous from the sidewalk. The architecture is amazing, and well worth the time. Quaint, artsy shops abound in downtown, and there are plenty of antique and boutique-type shops to spend the day. Even as a man , I love it. Of course, I get extra brownie points from my wife for this, but it's really just a unique city with a rich southern culture which is slowly fading away, sadly! But it's awesome. You wouldn't believe the number of friends whose families/daughters here in Augusta, Ga. travel the 3 hours to Charleston to have their weddings and receptions there-----one of my sisters did, and the reception was held in a beautiful historic home. It was one of the most memorable receptions I've ever attended. And there are so many great restaurants in Charleston, too. One good recommendation for a can't-miss casual and reasonable meal downtown ,at the end of King St. near the old slave market, is "T Bonz", and it's got a great menu....and there's a can't-miss mural that you'll love in the entryway. It's a huge cafe scene, but when you look at it closely, you'll see Elvis , Nixon, Gorbachov, James Dean, and other famous and infamous people sitting alongside each other at the tables. It's a hoot! Great steaks, seafood, & appetizers.......again, very casual and reasonable. Not the typical fine-dining expensive type which is also available everywhere in Charleston. This is just a great place to go out for a good "regular" dinner....and it's very popular. You'll also see along King Street a hotel called Charleston Place (I think the real entrance is actually along an adjacent street, but you can walk thru a corridor to get to it from King St.---thru the shops), which is THE nicest hotel in Charleston. Inside the walk-thru area is a grouping of great boutique-type shops which are a lot of fun, and the restaurants there are also easy to access and are pretty good. http://charleston.citysearch.com/yel...or_id=2&cw3=66. http://www.sciway.net/tourism/chasrests.html. Have fun. I'm sure you will receive some great tips for the Charleston area. I'm jealous. Marty (jme)
