Hilton Head, off season, with a toddler
We're headed for week of "relaxation" in late March. Our son will have recently turned 2. Any suggestions for activities/not to be missed? We will be staying at Swallowtail in Sea Pines and we are tentatively planning to have our bikes and kiddie trailer with us. We need some other activity ideas for the little guy. Thanks!

Go visit Harbortown and walk to the top of the light house. There is a great kids play area at Harbortown with swings, etc.
While up there you can also visit the stables to see the horses and maybe take a horse out for a ride. Go to the beach with some beach toys and let your child play for hours while you relax. It will be cool/cold on the beach during March. |

There's a new sandbox type activity geared toward toddlers and young children that opened up off Pope Avenue (behind one of the churches). Adventure Cove may have some activities for toddlers, although most are for older children. There are also some playgrounds around. Stop by a tourist info center and they can probably offer more suggestions.

Here's a link to the Hilton Head Island Parks. We took our kids to the Crossings Park to play on the play ground. Kind of small but it worked for something different and a diversion.
Also, I would suggest rethinking taking your own bikes if you have expensive bikes. The salty water is not good for them. The island is flat so you don't need 18 gears to get around. There are bike rental places all over the island. With lots of competition, the rates are very reasonable. Not sure what the prices are in March, but we paid $15/week Nov. 12-19 to rent from Island Cruisers near Coligny Circle. Just pick up the visitor mags and look for coupons. They delivered to our condo. I would assume they have kiddie trailers, too. |
