Resorts: FF/Wyndham Flagstaff, FF/ Wyndham Williamsburg - Kingsgate, FF/Wyndham Myrtle Beach/Westwinds, Lifetime in Hawaii (Oahu)
Williamsburg - May 11-13, 2007

For those of you planning a trip to Williamsburg in May 2007 . . . or who live within driving distance . . . you may be interested in this.

The 400th anniversary of the landing in Jamestown will take place May 11-13, 2007. Special event tickets must be purchased in advance, through The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation at $30 per person (adult) per day. Kids are $15/day. No discounts for multiple days. When I called this morning I was told that they had over 32k tickets per day, and are down to around 19k after less than a week's ticket sales.

If you are interested, you should make arrangements ASAP. More information may be found at http://www.jamestown2007.org/ .

David and I will be there, staying at our home resort of FF Kingsgate (wk 18 fortunately overlaps this once in a lifetime event). We'd love to connect with other TUGGERS who may be planning to be in Williamsburg that week.

Yvonne

Be ready for the crowds, and Williamsburg doesn't handle traffic very well in some areas. There are only two ways to get to Jamestown from Williamsburg. One is Jamestown Road, a two lane road, and the other is the Colonial Parkway which is two lanes with an unmarked passing lane.

Understand. I am originally from VA and my mom and youngest sister lived in Williamburg for years in the 80's and 90's. The locals have a name for the tourists, when they especially avoid them . . . Tourons (for "tourist morons").

That city is always horrible during parents' weekend at Wm & Mary . . . Grand Illumination Weekend and key summer dates when special events are happening. I know that it will be a zoo for the Jamestown 400th.

With that being said, the $30 ticket gets you free transporation from the lots in Williamsburg to the three Jamestown venues hosting events that weekend. It may be, that you cant' drive there if you want to, due to the limited roads and parking on-site.

For me, this is a once in a lifetime experience, one I'm not going to avoid due to what can be expected to be some inconveniences. At least the weather in May is moderate and should be sweltering over 90 degrees.

We were in Williamsburg Oct 15-22 which was the 225th anniversary of the Battle of Yorktown...anyway we bought our tickets for the 400th anniversary then and we can't wait to return. It was really remarkable to witness the anniversary of such an important historical event...If this next one is half as good it will be spectacular. See you all there.

HI all,

This is great news, BUT for me, it is a mixed blessing. I was hoping for some availability for exchange during my son's graduation that weekend instead of staying in Hampton. Oh well ...

In any event, the traffic can't be as bad as in Hampton Roads!
