Hi, I am just in the process of booking my first exchange. We are exchanging our ONE bedroom and looking to go to Orlando. I am being shown some TWO bedroom choices that will sleep up to 8 people. Is this the norm? We are a family of four and if I can get a 2 bedroom, then I'd like our kids to each bring a friend. Am I GUARANTEED to get a two bedroom if thats the exchange I select? I'd hate to bring four kids and end up with something smaller.
Also the 2 bedroom choices are Westgate Town Center, Westgate Palace, The Seasons, or Blue Tree Resort. Any recommendations for a family with teens?
Thanks in advance for your help!!

Yes, if you reserve and get confirmed on a two bedroom, then that is what you will get. Are you looking for this year or next? Two bedrooms that sleep 8 usually have two double or queen beds in one bedroom. a king or queen in the master bedroom, and a hide-a-bed sofa in the living area. I don't the resorts, as you are a member you can look at the reviews and that will help you understand what these resorts are like. I think the Westgates put on a hard sell, so if you decide to go to one of them, be prepared.

River, are you saying that I'm expected to attend a timeshare sales pitch when I trade to another resort?

They will try

You are under NO obligation to attend a presentation but that doesn't mean they won't put incredible effort into trying to get you into one. Westgate is one of the worst as they will try to make it sound like a maintenance meeting, a survey, etc - avoid them if you stay there. The resorts are voice but you must avoid the sales weasels or you'll be sorry. Unplug the phone. Enjoy your trip.

Sounds like you are trading thru RCI? If so, if it comes up on search, you can book it and get that type of unit at check-in, tho maybe not the same unit # shown on your confirmation.

Trade-ups still occur in RCI.

Nothing is ever guaranteed in life, but if you experience bait and switch, RCI will try to intervene on your behalf and get you what you confirmed.

We are actually trading thru II, and although I'm as pleased as can be that I would be able to get a two bedroom in exchange for a one bedroom, I just want to be sure that they won't change it on us at a later date because we really only "qualify" for the one bedroom.

You confirmed a two bedroom, thats what you will get. Dont worry about it at all.

If you are in the 59 day window with II, size doesn't matter. You could pull a two bedroom with a studio. Otherwise it is hard to pull anything but the size you deposited. RCI is different and sometimes you can pull a larger unit, even outside their 60 day window.

if you can see it online with your 1 bedroom you can take it. don't worry you will get the 2 bedroom confirmation.

Well thanks everyone - I'm feeling much more reassured now. :}
So I have the two bedroom choice at either Westgate Town Center, Wetgate Palace, Sunterra Cypress Pointe, or Blue Tree.
Any recommendations? We'll have four teens with us.
Thanks Again!!

The sales pressure at Westgate Resorts can be intense. I would recommend Blue Tree or Sunterra.

Not Blue Tree or Westgate Palace, in my opinion.

Cypress Point is a nice resort, with a great location. I haven't stayed at Westgate Town Center, but that is a newer resort, and Westgate units are very nice. You do have the pressure from the timeshare weasels there, though. How strong are you? ;-)

You might want to check the bedroom configurations to see if one of the other is better for you. I don't think you would be unhappy with either.

Blue Tree and Cypress Pointe are right next to one another, in a perfect location in Lake Buena Vista. Only two or three minutes to Downtown Disney. We have stayed three times at Blue Tree and like it alot. It's not that big of a resort and all of the four pools are within very close proximity. There are two different 2BR configurations, executive or deluxe. The 2BR executives are a little smaller then the deluxe units. I can't comment on the other resorts, but I agree that you should consider the size (square footage and configuration) of each unit. And as stated many times before, yes, it you get the exchange for a 2 BR unit then that's what you'll get. Good Luck.

The thing that may be confusing you is that with a 1 bd deposit you can't do an ongoing search for a 2 bd EXCEPT when you're trading to a resort which has only 2 bd units.

So, if you find a 2 bd unit with a 1 bd deposit and make a reservation. You WILL get the 2bd unit.

But, if you want to do an ongoing search for a 2 bd week in Orlando, you can only search for resorts which have only 2 bd units. You can't search for 2 bd units at someplace like Grand Vista which has 2 bd & 1 bd units.

Westgate

I stayed in the Westgate Vacation Villas 2 years ago. I did not have any sales problems. I had a two bedroom with a loft. Great space. Several pools. I had two preteens who had a great time with other kids.

The first bedroom was the master suite, second bedroom had two double beds, the loft was like a minature family room with a t.v. and day beds. Couch in living room was a pull out soft and had a very adequate kitchen with washer and dryer.

The only downfall was that if you wanted to play tennis, basketball, ping pong etc you had to pay.

I don't want to toss a wet blanket onto all those that say you are definately guarenteed a two bedroom but.........I had an accomadation certificate that I allowed a co-worker to use for a stay in Orlando. They booked a two bedroom unit. They did not get it.

They were not going to arrive on the arrival date and called the resort ahead of time (couple of weeks) to let them know they'd be arriving a day late. No, problem says the resort.

They arrived at the resort and were assigned a two bedroom unit..........in a building undergoing renovation to a unit that was NOT ready for occupancy. For that matter, the enitre building was shut down. They went back to the front desk to point out the mistake. The front desk then had another problem. There were NO MORE 2 bedroom units ready for occupanct.

They were put in two one bedroom units in the same complex and, I believe they were next door to each other but did not connect. They were told to come back to the desk the next day to be reassigned a two bedroom unit.

We'll, the next day there were no two bedroom units available. As it was 4 adults traveling together, they asked that it just be left as it was, two one bedroom units not connected to each other.

Now I know this is an extremely rare incedent but, there are NO guarentee's in life or timesharing. There is the possiblity that someone screws up and over books a resort, over books a particular style unit et.......

Yes, there are rare instances where the resort cannot accomodate those it has booked, but the policy of both RCI and II in those instances dictates that you will be given something equivalent. In this extreme case, you were given 2 units that together would accomodate your group. Not ideal, but a solution was found. This was the case of the resort screwing up, and had nothing to do with II or RCI policy. It could just as easily have happened wth a trade down from a 3BR unit.

In June I stayed at Westgate Lakes Resort & Spa and didn't have any issues with sales pressure. See this post: http://tugbbs.com/forums/showthread.php?p=184145#post184145.

You will get what you are confirmed.

We stayed at Westgate Vacation Villa over Christmas and no issues with the sales people. Never got contacted about a meeting or presentation. They did leave a phone message that there was a welcome gift for us to be pickup and we ignored it.

Maybe all the problems with checkin they forgot about the sales meeting or decided to leave us alone. The place is too large and checkin was a zoo. We were sent to the wrong checkin three different times and then corfirmation was found incorrect. After 1-1/2 hour we were finally taken to our unit. Took three days to get RCI and Westgate to get the confirmation corrected (RCI faxed the correction to an incorrect number).

If I had the choice, I pick Cypress.

I dont think Westgate Palace is owned by "The Westgate". I am an owner of Westgate Vacation Villas and believe it or not, they did try the maintenance meeting deal and I made it for the last full day of our week. I told them right up front that I might be too busy and they didnt harrass me at all. They were great. The row boats and miniature golf was kind of fun for the little grandkids but my sons played tennis a few times that week. The pools were nice. The towncenter is next door and newer than than villas and are quite nice.

Westgate 2 bedroom units are good size units. Westgate and other timeshare units will try to get me to listen to thier presentations and I just say no thanks and I give them the (mother of 5 look) that says "Dont mess with me". It seems to work well.
