NYC Broadway Shows Seats

I have been to Broadway shows many times. However, this same question always comes up. What are the seats called that are up on the mezzanine level, all the way to the side, where you sit in regular chairs? Most of them have 3-4 chairs per little section. I always wondered what seating goup these are in. Does anyone know?

Are those considered good seats? I never really thought about them as I just figured those were for "the rich people".

It depends on what you are seeing, imho. They are usually less expensive than prime orchestra. I like them better than side orchestra since you don't have to look over anyone's head (if you are in the front two seats of the box), but they aren't as good as sitting center. And for something like ballet, they get you close but you miss the overall beauty of the macro-choreography. Probably the same is true for a big opera production at the Met, etc...

How come I have never seen them being offered for sale when purchasing tickets online?

At the Gershwin, there is an area called "loge" which are basically on the sides in front of the front mezz. Makes sense, huh?

We were about 6 seats in from the side in the 1st row of the front mezz, and were disappointed that these seats were in front of us. Luckily my daughter was able to see well anyway.

There really aren't many Broadway theatres that have them. I just bought some for the NYC Ballet at the New York State Theatre, but they were sold as First Ring, Side.

Box Seats

We go to the theatre alot. When purchasing tickets for shows at the box office, in a theatre with box seats, we have been advised not to get these type of seats due to limited viewing of the stage.

Broadway Seating Charts

With all theaters having unique configurations, best to look each one up as needed.
