I am thinking of taking the kids by myself for a week this summer to a TS. I have 3 kids, ages 6,6 10. I live in the DC area--so anything on the East Coast is fine---or inland within 6 hrs drive from DC.
I am looking for East Coast places with lots of organized kids activities---the Resort does not have to have any other draws (like wllmsbg, theme parks, etc.), but MUST have lots of things for kids to do at multiple times during the day for small or nominal fee (not $10 per kid per craft, etc). So that with a swim at the pool, we could have a fun, full day. Also, Resort must not be a terribly hard trade (so no Smuggs, etc.). Any ideas? Also, any FLA resorts are fine too--as grandparents live there and we could combine a visit. |

I still vote for Williamsburg. Manor Club has a lot going on for kids. If you can drive another two hours, I'll also add Hilton Head.

looking for closer to mid-Atlantic and must be RCI
we own at HHI, and will already be going for the week in the summer. Looking for specific resort names with lots of daily structured activities.

fwiw, I am also taking two kids on my own for a week this summer, I booked Marriott's Manor Club in Williamsburg...
I would also suggest Marriott Seaview near Atlantic City. You can drive to Brigantine Beach (20 mins maybe?), the pool is great, and there is a great kids/game room. It's been a few years since we were there, but I recall quite a few kids activities; still you should call to check. Not that it will be an easy trade, either, btw. How about some of the places in Myrtle Beach? That may be pushing your 6 hours, but it's closer than HHI... Palm Beach Shores on Singer Island in FL has a good kids' camp (again, it's been a long time since we there, so double check current info) |

If your go Florida The Fountains (Orlando) has a great kids program, and tickets to Universal can be purchased off there website for very low $$$. Otherwise stick to Massanutten. My kids are 4,5 & 7 they love both.

If you decide to drive further and go to Florida try Ron Jon Cape Caribe resort located in Cape Canaveral (about 1 1/2 hours south of Daytona). The resort is located on the beach and has numerous other activities (included in your stay) that will keep your kids busy every day such as: waterpark with lazy river and slide, mini-golf, arcade, kids playzone (like Discovery Zone), movie theater, basketball, tennis along with a wonderfully entertaining safari show for free. The resort is also located right next to Port Canaveral where several cruise ships come and go (including the Disney ships) which is always entertaining. Disney is also only a 1 hour drive away.
I have no idea how difficult a trade is but I'm sure that summertime and spring break weeks fill up very quickly. We own there and love it for our kids. I've also heard great things about the Resort on Cocoa Beach. They don't have the waterpark but have better beachfront than Ron Jon as well as all of the other activities. Both are very similar (built by the same developer). Both are wonderful resorts for young kids and families. Good luck! |

Massanutten is EXCELLENT!!
My wife and I and our 3 yr old twins went in August and had a BLAST! We also got a unit for my SIL and her family, they also loved the resort. There is so much to do, plus there is always something going on in the evening. Plus...it is an easy trade. Go to the website and check out the activities Joe |

Elaine, I agree Massanutten would be a lot of fun BUT I would hardly call their fees nominal. You can pay full price as you go for activities, or buy their activity card which makes some things free and discounts others, but you'd have to run yourself ragged to make the card pay for itself. Also, Mass. has no shuttle service and it's so HUGE that you have to drive to most if not all of the activities, so if you want the kids doing various things all day, be prepared to be in the car alot (just like home, IOW )I'm not trying to discourage you from going there, as we had fun, but it gets expensive.

Split Rock in the Poconos gets my vote! We've been to Masanutten and the amount of activities don't compare to Split Rock. Plus they're all spread out. At Split Rock everything is within walking distance. And the activities director, Doc Holiday, is great!

did Liki Tiki in Orlando for Thanksgiving. Water park on property was nice We didn't get to use it though - as it was very cold there this year (should have brought the winter coats down - instead of shorts).
Since we had 4 timeshare units and lots of kids - the kids spent most of their time at disney or playing together. |
