Best time to go to Washington DC-no crowds

We want to go to DC this spring. When is the best time to go when it won't be too crowded? Just going for a couple of days.

Thanks!

We were there in February of last year and it was great. The weather wasn't to cold and there were no crowds. In the Spring, I would say that you would need to time it between Spring Breaks and School trips.

I like Fall in DC--Feb can be icy and cold

usually not many crowds in late sept/oct--just don't go Columbus weekend.

Definitely. We went one year just before the cherry blossoms. The crowds were the worst I'd ever seen, mostly school groups.

Lines for everything were terrible. We waited something like 1 1/2 hours because my son insisted on seeing the National Archives.

1 1/2 hours for the National Archives is not too bad considering that, outside the US, the rest of the world has been waiting thousands of years (and still is) for national constitutions as good as the one contained in that building

We have gone the 1st & 2nd week of Sept. Schools are back in session, its too early for field trips, weather is nice and no lines.

Maybe the week after Easter and spring break?

Go in mid-May. The weather will be great. Going on weekends will increase the crowds, but you won't run into a lot of school groups then.

We went to Washington DC during Thanksgiving weekend. We had great time. There are some tourists, but not crowded at all.

We spent the first week of May in DC. Perfect weather. Crowds were not bad. I would definitely return at that time of year.

On our way back to the airport from Massanutten we spent the day in DC. This was early June this year. Drove along the mall until we found a parking spot on the mall, about halfway. So go in early June.

The best days to be in DC are Saturday's and Sunday's. The City is empty.

I don't agree with this quote. You can easily get into and out of DC on weekends because no government workers are there, but the attractions are very crowded during busy season which runs from the Cherry Blossoms through August.

Don't misunderstand, I would absolutely go on weekends due to the traffic during the week.
