Early May in Myrtle Beach?

I'm thinking of going to the Marriott here. I have 2 little kids. Will it be warm enough to swim? Will there be amusements and such open yet? Or should we wait till early June? I want to avoid huge crowds but don't want to be bored.

Let me know what you think? Thanks!

Myrtle Beach in May

Ocean water temps are probably too cool for swimming but I believe there is a heated pool at the Marriott. Air temps on the other hand should be pretty nice and certainly the humidity will be favorable as well. I would think that early may would be a good time to visit Myrtle Beach if you have little ones and want to avoid the crowds.

Normally is would be a perfect time to go. HOWEVER, we went to MOW the first week in May last year and about froze!!!!! Temps were in the 60's all week with a pretty good amount of wind. We had to wear wind shirts to play golf in. There was an hour here and there where you could lay around the pool but that was about it. This is not the norm for May. Ordinarily the weather is perfect but you just never know.

All of the activities are swinging into full speed during May and the crowds haven't arrived yet so it's a great time to be there. Again, HOWEVER, there are two weekends during May when they have the bikers in town and personally I don't want to be there during those times. JMHO.

For avoiding crowds and warm ocean I prefer week after Labor Day. Kids are back in school and water is still holding Summer heat.

Watch out what week you go in May. There are two large biker weekends. Place is packed and lots of traffic. Alot of noise from the bikes. Police are out in force. Not a good time to take little ones. Hope this helps....
