Check out this auction on eBay:

Would Marriott have an issue with this? I an hoping to be a new Marriott Aruba Surf Club owner in the next couple of weeks but I would never think of charging people for this info. I guess capitalism is alive and well on eBay!

Quick question...isn't this guy making out twice? He is getting the referral to Marriott (not sure what it gets him) and also the $25!

There is already one buyer so far....

Marc

There was another guy who used to sell these on ebay too, and he's not selling them anymore so I figured Marriott required him to remove his listings or something.

Hi,

This seller is in violation of the following:

1) Violation of his Square Trade membership by offering travel to real estate to which he does not have ownership or usage rights.
2) Violation of Marriott Policy by reselling its free tours

and now the big ones which could get you big fines and or jail time according to statutes ..

3) Civil and criminal code violations of state laws which reguire indivuduals who sell developer timeshare units to be licensed salespeople sponsored and managed by the developer as "registrant".

4) Violaton of federal consumer protection laws for not having an adequate disclosure statement. He is offering timeshare presentations for money. Calling the $24.96 a gift is a transparent attempt to avoid his de facto position as a agent.

Not all agents must directly offer units for sale to be subject to these rules, even those at the airports (like the Marriott and Wyndham/Fairfield sales booths at the St. Thomas airport) need to be registered agents/licensed salespeople even though they just sign folks up for tours - just like this guy.

5) AND if he is taking the position that he is just helping people get in touch with Marriott for a tour for a $24.95 fee (and not a sales agent/respresentative). Then he is de facto admiting that he is acting as an unlicensed travel agent since he is not renting what he owns. Again a civil and criminal violation in most states. The term "gift" is not going to get anyone out if it.

Other than that it's cool :)

What tangible bonus does Marriott give owners who refer other potential owners to Marriott for information or a tour? Points?

Marc

It's the last sentence in his "Why I do this" blurb. He gets Marriott Reward Points for the referrals who buy.

Thanks John....so he is double dipping so to speak.

I wonder if Marriott reps monitor this site? If they do they will surely be contacting this guy!

It's been removed!

The listing has been removed. When I click on the link I get "no longer available or been removed."
